Job description

Quality Tube USA is seeking an experienced and hands-on Production Manager to lead manufacturing operations at our steel pipe facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel pipe/tube manufacturing, ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) pipe mill operations, and production leadership.

This position is responsible for driving safe, efficient, high-quality production while developing employees, improving processes, reducing downtime and scrap, and ensuring production goals are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production operations across the steel pipe manufacturing facility.
  • Manage, coach, and develop production supervisors, leads, and hourly manufacturing employees.
  • Oversee ERW pipe mill operations, including forming, welding, sizing, cutoff, and related processes.
  • Establish and maintain production schedules to meet customer requirements and on-time delivery goals.
  • Monitor production performance, efficiency, downtime, scrap, yield, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Identify production constraints and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and efficiency.
  • Partner with Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Shipping, and other departments to resolve production issues.
  • Ensure products are manufactured according to customer specifications, quality standards, and applicable industry requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction, and waste elimination.
  • Analyze production data and develop action plans to address recurring issues.
  • Work closely with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Ensure employees follow established standard work instructions, safety procedures, and operating procedures.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and hold employees and leadership accountable for safe work practices.
  • Assist with workforce planning, staffing, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Maintain appropriate production documentation, reports, and KPIs.
  • Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in investigations and corrective actions related to safety, quality, production, and employee performance.
  • Maintain a professional, accountable, and team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive manufacturing production leadership experience.
  • Strong preference for direct ERW pipe mill experience.
  • Experience in steel pipe, steel tube, tubular products, or heavy manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, and equipment operations.
  • Experience with production scheduling, KPIs, labor planning, and performance management.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and understand production data and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and employee-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production/manufacturing systems.

Highly Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • ERW / Electric Resistance Welding
  • High-Frequency ERW (HFERW)
  • Steel pipe mills
  • Steel tube manufacturing
  • Carbon steel pipe
  • Structural tubing
  • API pipe
  • OCTG
  • Pipe forming and sizing
  • Coil processing
  • Slitting
  • Welding operations
  • Cutoff and finishing operations
  • Galvanizing or pipe coating
  • ASTM/API specifications
  • ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Six Sigma
  • OEE improvement
  • Scrap and yield reduction
  • Downtime reduction
  • Root cause analysis
  • Preventive maintenance programs

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing leader, not simply someone who has managed a production department from an office.

The ideal candidate understands how a steel pipe mill operates and can walk the floor, identify production problems, work with operators and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot issues, and hold the team accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and performance.

Direct ERW pipe mill experience is strongly preferred. Candidates who have successfully managed steel pipe, tube, tubular, or other closely related metal manufacturing operations will also be considered.

Leadership Expectations

The Production Manager will be expected to:

  • Lead by example.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the production floor.
  • Develop and hold supervisors accountable.
  • Build a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Make data-driven production decisions.
  • Address performance issues promptly and professionally.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes rather than simply reacting to problems.

Why Join Quality Tube USA?

This is an opportunity for an experienced manufacturing leader to play a key role in strengthening production operations and helping drive the continued growth and success of our facility.
