Job description

As a unit within the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), the Office of Sports Administration manages all CPS interscholastic sports programming and facilitates seasonal participation for both high school and elementary-level athletic competitions. CPS Athletics and Sports Programs provides all students, regardless of race, gender or ethnicity, opportunities to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally in controlled, safe activities outside of the traditional classroom. Participation in school sports provides students with experiences that foster character, citizenship, and academic achievement.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Sports Administration, the Stadium Attendant will perform general stadium maintenance and grounds-keeping duties, as well as related tasks as required. This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis
The Stadium Attendantwill be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Maintains athletic fields used for various sports activities and events and ensures that stadium grounds are kept in good condition, including the following;
  • Aerating, seeding, fertilizing, watering, cutting, weeding, and disease and pest control of all grass surfaces.
  • Plants sod and rolls and levels athletic fields as necessary.
  • Maintains artificial grass surfaces and running tracks.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of outside stadium areas by disposing of debris from shrubs, fields, parking lots, and sidewalks
  • Performs graffiti removal and snow removal
  • Marks and prepares fields for various sporting events, such as baseball diamonds, football and soccer fields, and track and field
  • Responsible for the transport and set up of equipment and apparatuses used for winter and spring interscholastic and citywide sport competitions
  • Performs interior maintenance and cleaning of locker rooms, officials' rooms, lavatories, offices, and other small rooms
  • Washes windows and repairs broken windows
  • Performs minor carpentry, plumbing, and painting duties to maintain the stadium in good working condition.
  • Performs general maintenance and repairs to stadium equipment and machinery.
  • Maintains and repairs time clocks and scoreboards in the absence of clock operators
  • Drains and winterizes all water systems and underground sprinkler systems as needed.
  • Properly stores, uses, transports, and disposes of all chemicals used at the stadium.
  • Other duties as assigned

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Stadium Attendantmust possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience Required:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in general semi-skilled labor work
  • Experience in performing basic groundskeeping and maintenance work is preferred
  • Experience with using pertinent tools and equipment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to complete basic reports
  • Knowledge of the basic rules of major sports

Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions; however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
