Overview
This position is responsible for executing work duties that include, but are not limited to, PV system service inspections, de-installation and re-installation of PV systems, installation of retrofit storage projects, and responding to service calls to troubleshoot and repair residential PV and storage systems.
This person needs to be self-driven and have strong troubleshooting skills to carry a project through to completion. The Residential Service Lead may also be asked to support other Residential Circle departments when needed, depending on team capacity and resource needs, including EPC, BNC, and DE/RE.
Key Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot and repair solar PV systems in an efficient and safe manner.
• Lead quality PV and storage installations based on system design specifications, including de-installation and re-installation of existing solar PV systems.
• Ensure layout, roof attachment, racking and module assembly, combiner box installation, homerun wiring, animal guard installation, and voltage testing meet expected quality standards.
• Install Data Acquisition Systems, or DAS, for residential projects.
• Lead equipment warranty and vendor RMA processes for customers.
• Complete work orders through Site Capture and Salesforce/Field Service Lightning applications in a timely manner.
• Provide feedback to operations teams to support best practice improvements.
• Represent the company to customers in a way that builds trust, accountability, and customer satisfaction.
• Educate customers on how solar PV and storage systems perform and operate.
• Respond to customer emails and phone calls related to questions, service requests, and project coordination.
• Work safely in a variety of conditions, including heights, ladders, live electricity, battery storage, and pitched roof surfaces.
• Follow through on work delegated by the Project Manager, Installation Manager, and Department Director.
• Operate in a lead role on assigned work orders to complete the full scope of work.
• Maintain strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Use Field Service Lightning to track and enter case and work order details, maintaining high-quality records with all information needed to close cases and work orders and report on work performed.
• Effectively create, track, and process RMA work orders, including tracking necessary details to ensure customer satisfaction and OEM payment for work performed.
Skills and Qualifications:
Required Certifications
• Colorado State Residential Wireman's Electrical License.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Communication
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with customers, crew members, project managers, and team leads.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Daily availability to respond to emails and phone calls from team members and clients.
• Practice FOH communication with all colleagues and be receptive to feedback.
Teamwork
• Contribute and collaborate at departmental and company meetings.
• Support other team members in the resolution and completion of work orders.
• Provide transparency and ample notice for lengthy time-off requests to ensure the department can adequately cover required work during absences.
• Provide feedback to installation, design, and sales teams about best practices and issues discovered in the field.
Technology
• Ability to safely and effectively use a variety of electrical tools, including electrical meters, thermal imaging cameras, and IV curve tracers.
• Computer skills, including typing, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
• NABCEP certification.
• Networking knowledge, such as TCP/IP, device addressing, and MODBUS protocols.
• Understanding of data monitoring systems and related wiring and computer systems.
• NFPA 70E certification.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and use tools in a variety of capacities. This includes tasks with repetitive motions and overhead work with hand tools, power tools, and materials. The employee is also required to reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
The work environment may include extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and the employee may be exposed to sunlight for multiple hours each day. The ability to work on pitched roof surfaces and at heights, including multi-story buildings, is required. The ability to climb ladders is also required.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Driving to job site locations is required.
Work Environment
The noise level in this work environment can vary from quiet to loud. The work environment may change from day to day between office settings and project work sites. This position includes high and potentially deadly exposure to electricity.
