Description

Federated/Fisher Auto Parts, Home of the Parts Professionals! Providing world class customer service and reliable auto parts and accessories for over 95 years! Fisher Auto Parts’ employees are one of the key ingredients to our success – past, present and future. Fisher has many different career and employment opportunities, as well as benefits to offer new and current employees!

We are looking for a highly skilled Software Quality Engineer to join our development team, with a primary focus on ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our core point-of-sale platform and the broader ecosystem of enterprise applications it connects to. In this role, you will play an essential part in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), ensuring that all software is thoroughly tested and meets business requirements prior to live deployment. We are seeking an AI-native Quality Engineer who defaults to working through AI agents at every stage of the quality lifecycle: test planning, automated test creation, edge-case discovery, execution, and bug triage. Working hands-on across a modern full-stack codebase (React/TypeScript, Fastify APIs, REST contracts, and relational databases), you will collaborate directly with engineers and business stakeholders to drive automated testing through CI/CD pipelines and ensure flawless enterprise software releases.

Supervision

The employee in this position reports to the VP of Information Technology and does not supervise other employees.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, execute, and maintain automated test suites and detailed test plans across our core platform's React/TypeScript frontend and Fastify API.
  • Work AI-native by default — using AI agents to generate test strategies, write automated scripts, uncover edge cases, and analyze test failures — while remaining fully accountable for the accuracy, coverage, and quality of everything verified.
  • Validate REST APIs and shared schema layers (such as Zod) with a focus on contract stability, versioning discipline, and backwards compatibility across consuming applications.
  • Work in an agile environment alongside software engineers across the full SDLC, executing continuous integration, end-to-end (E2E), integration, and regression testing in CI/CD pipelines with staged environments before production deployment.
  • Communicate directly with business stakeholders — operations, finance, merchandising, IT, and other teams — to translate real-world workflows into concise, comprehensive test cases.
  • Document, log, track, and triage bugs and defects, working closely with software developers to perform root-cause analysis and aid in problem resolution.
  • Verify web application security fundamentals, including input validation, safe authorization patterns, and safe access control.
  • Conduct post-release and post-implementation verification testing in production environments.
  • Provide reliable testing effort estimates and consistently deliver against project timelines.
  • Take on other duties as assigned, with the flexibility to adapt testing efforts as team and platform needs shift.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid understanding of the SDLC and agile development practices, including writing automated tests, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, staged testing environments, and end-to-end verification.
  • Genuinely AI-native mindset — experience utilizing AI coding and testing agents across the full QA lifecycle, with the judgment to direct them effectively and catch subtle errors in their output.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with modern web automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Vitest) and modern web technologies (TypeScript, React, Node.js, HTML5, CSS3, and RESTful API design).
  • Understanding of relational databases, schema design, and writing queries to validate production data integrity.
  • Ability to test and validate REST APIs, shared schemas (Zod), and contract stability across multiple consuming applications.
  • Working knowledge of general system/network architecture, web application security fundamentals, and cloud platform environments (AWS).
  • Excellent communication skills and strong collaborative instinct — ability to work effectively with both software engineers and non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Sharp attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and an analytical, problem-solving mindset.
  • A bias toward speed and strong teamwork — comfortable moving fast, verifying iteratively, and working well within a team tackling a large, shared workload.
Requirements Conditions of Employment
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related area preferred
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test
Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday during core business hours. While we support a healthy work-life balance, flexibility is required. This may involve working outside of standard hours to meet critical project deadlines or address urgent production issues.
