About Big SNOW:

Big SNOW is the North America’s first and only real snow, indoor, year-round ski and snowboard resort.   We share our passion of sliding on snow with our guests.  

How the Lift and General Mechanic Works with the Team:

 We are currently looking for a heavy-machinery mechanic to assist with the maintenance of our lifts and industrial machinery.  As a maintenance mechanic you will help us to live up to this mission by ensuring we are offering our guests the best and safest experiences possible by keeping our facility and equipment in top running order.  This includes: Ensuring the regular and as needed maintenance of our aerial and surface lifts, snow making system, snow groomer, and HVAC machinery to ensure that they are operating in line with all required standards and at the highest levels of safety and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and operate fixed grip, aerial, surface, and conveyer lifts (Doppelmayr and Magic Carpets).
  • Troubleshoot and assist with snowcat, lift, and snowmaking maintenance and repair.
  • Operate snowcat for maintenance testing.
  • Basic understanding of diesel and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of brake system (service, emergency, and rollback).
  • Perform daily visual inspections of all snowmaking and cooling system equipment.
  • Perform start up checks on all lifts.
  • Maintain organized and accurate paperwork, checklists, and work orders on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Comfort and ability to work at heights with knowledge of safe climbing procedures.
  • Develop understanding of safe rigging methods and assist when needed.
  • Assist as needed with lift evacuations.
  • Operate lift on standby mode in case of mechanical or electrical problems.
  • Identify tower problems and relay information to technician.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals.
  • Full understanding of OSHA lockout/tag and other Big SNOW provided slope operations procedures.
  • Ability to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble lift sheaves as necessary.
  • Ability to work in position as a lift operator when needed.
  • Perform general tasks and requests from Manager or Guides as needed.
  • Adhere to all resort and department policies and procedures.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Electrical knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to learn about snow quality.
  • Parts and maintenance coordination.
  • Schedule coordination with the team.
  • Willingness to assist other departments as needed.
  • Punch in and out according to schedule.
  • Be a positive team member, develop mutual respect with your peers and continuously strive to be the best.
  • Always wear the appropriate uniform and name tag when on duty.
  • Be in position on time, always.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Electrical knowledge and experience required.
  • High School Diploma or higher.
  • Possess working knowledge of chairlift functions and operations.
  • 1 - 3 years as a mechanically savvy lift maintenance helper or lift operator.
  • Knowledge of metric and standard tools.
  • Efficient with power tools.
  • Ability to work in 28-degree temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, constructively, consistently, and openly with multiple people, verbally and in writing.
  • Possession of own tools preferred.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform all other physical requirements of the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
  • High level of organization.
  • Possess a positive attitude and a commitment to delivering great service.
  • Desire to support Big SNOW’s Mission Statement through your actions and performance.
