Cardiovascular Surgeon (CT) - Dothan, AL
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Schedule: Full-time, Call shared 1:4
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join a well-established surgical group as part of a nationally recognized cardiovascular program. The practice currently includes three board-certified surgeons and supports a comprehensive cardiac, thoracic, and vascular service line. The incoming surgeon will benefit from an advanced infrastructure designed to support complex cases, including a dedicated CVICU, robotic-assisted surgery capabilities, and opportunities to mentor early-career surgeons and residents.
Position Summary
The incoming Cardiovascular Surgeon will contribute to a program ranked in the top 10% nationally for patient safety in heart attack, interventional coronary, and vascular care. The surgeon will participate in a balanced caseload of thoracic, cardiac, and vascular procedures, supported by skilled APPs, advanced technology, and a robust hospitalist service for consults and non-surgical management.
Core Responsibilities
  • Perform a broad range of cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including TAVR.
  • Provide mentorship to junior surgeons and collaborate with residents in Transitional Year programs.
  • Work collaboratively with APPs in the OR and in post-operative patient management.
  • Participate equally in shared 1:4 call coverage.
  • Contribute to program development and continued growth of structural and interventional heart services.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Active Alabama medical license (MD/DO) with no restrictions.
  • DEA certification.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Experienced surgeon with strong clinical skills and leadership ability.
  • Proficiency in open-heart and thoracic surgical procedures.
  • Experience with robotic-assisted surgery (daVinci system).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform TAVR procedures.
  • Strong understanding of perioperative and post-operative cardiac patient management.
  • Commitment to education, mentorship, and collaborative practice.
Patient & Workflow Details
  • 22 operating rooms, including 2 endovascular and open-heart suites.
  • 56 ICU beds, with a newly expanded dedicated CVICU.
  • Cardiothoracic APPs supporting vein harvesting, inpatient rounding, and continuity of care.
  • Office located on-campus for seamless workflow integration.
