Statewide Connecticut Residential Programs

ACES Youth Justice and Education Services is seeking a compassionate and engaging Red Cross Babysitting Course Instructor to provide instruction in youth leadership, child care readiness, and safety to students in small classroom settings within residential facilities throughout Connecticut. This position focuses on helping youth develop responsibility, communication, safety awareness, and workforce-readiness skills through nationally recognized babysitting and child care education programs.

The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, mentorship, and preparing students with practical life and employment skills that support future success.

Position Responsibilities

• Deliver the American Red Cross Babysitting and Child Care curriculum aligned with program standards
• Teach youth in small group residential and alternative education settings
• Provide instruction in child care safety, emergency response, leadership, communication, professionalism, and responsibility
• Facilitate hands-on learning activities, role playing, and real world child care scenarios
• Support students in developing workforce readiness and employability skills
• Maintain accurate attendance, instructional, and student progress records
• Foster a positive and structured classroom environment utilizing trauma-informed and restorative practices
• Collaborate with educational staff, residential personnel, behavioral support teams, and administrators
• Ensure instructional compliance with American Red Cross program standards
• Travel to residential facilities throughout the state of Connecticut as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Babysitting Instructor certification or ability to obtain certification prior to employment
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
• Experience working with youth, education, child care, recreation, healthcare, or related fields
• Strong communication, classroom management, and relationship-building skills
• Experience working with adolescents, alternative education, or justice-involved youth preferred
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass all required background and clearance checks

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching babysitting, child care, safety education, or workforce development programs
• Experience in residential, behavioral health, juvenile justice, or alternative education settings
• Additional certifications, including CPR Instructor, EMT, OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer, or related credentials
• Knowledge of trauma-informed educational practices and restorative approaches
• Experience supporting leadership development, social-emotional learning, and career readiness skills
