Oversee, organize, staff, direct, and control the Department of Radiology within the medical center. Supervise all administrative and technical service of this department, delegating appropriate responsibilities to supervisors and coordinators. Areas of responsibility: Operations management, local growth and performance, quality and metrics, people management, network and local collaboration and education, community and industry relations.


A day in the life of a Manager of Radiology at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Operations Management

1. Responsible for the overall direction and supervision of all components of facility Radiology departments.  Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the activities of Radiology in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, applicable licensing regulations; TJC standards, and all applicable State and Federal regulations.
2. Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies and network-wide Radiology policies and procedures.
3. Adhere with and execute processes for monitoring, evaluating, and improving departmental operations, systems, and services, as well as addressing through appropriate documentation and communication. 
4. Ensure that all operating areas and staff are in keeping with regulatory agency requirements and facility policies and procedures relative to safety and security, including, but not limited to:
a. New employee orientation
b. Periodic safety/disaster training
c. Accident/incident report
d. Annual TJC and OSHA required programs
5. Ensure that an adequate supply of stock supplies needed for Radiology procedures is on premises at all times.
6. Work with the facility VP Operations / Dir Clinical Services and VP, Network Radiology to ensure that the equipment is adequate to meet the community needs. 
7. Implement the Radiology productivity measurement program, including action plans created by the VP, Network Radiology and Radiology Business Manager for performance improvement.
8. Ensure facility Radiology department provides competent assessment, treatment and/or care to patients appropriate for the individualized and developmental needs for the ages of those patients served.
9. Responsible for maintenance of existing equipment through use of centrally determined contractual services, monitoring all repairs of purchases and installation of existing and new equipment. Ensure that all applicable regulations, both State and Federal, are met.
10. Help hospital achieve optimum patient experience and service recovery by leveraging results Patient Experience analyses, and implementing relevant improvements to local Radiology processes.
11. Maintain accountability for efficient and appropriate use of hospital resources. Give input to the VP, Network Radiology in determining resource allocation to the facility. Plan appropriate, effective budgets that are consistent with the financial objectives of the medical center. 
12. Administer the effective allocation of capital and human resources at the facility, including the organization of the services, determination and control of appropriate staffing mix and levels, and management productivity.
13. Prepare monthly variance reconciliation reports with the network Radiology Business Manager.

Local Growth and Performance

14. Collaborate with VP, Network Radiology as well as facility and HMH network marketing, particularly for outpatient-based programs, to increase organic growth of services in local area.
15. Seek out and initiate solutions to problems, including barriers to implementation of network-level strategy at the facility. Identify issues of importance and develop relevant policies, programs and proposals for potential implementation, in coordination with Network VP of Radiology and adherence to network policies and programs.
16. Bring local insights and share best practices on growth and performance to the VP, Network Radiology via the Imaging Council or other suitable forums.
17. Responsible for achieving strategy targets set by VP, Network Radiology for the facility, and seeking help when needed.

Quality and Metrics

18. Bring voice of facility patient experience back to the VP, Network Radiology, for incorporation into formulation of network policies and strategies.
19. Utilizing local insights as well as analyses from the VP, Network Radiology and network Radiology Business Manager, implement relevant local changes to improve procedure turnaround times and patient throughput.

People Management

20. Oversee and ensure time keeping, the scheduling of holidays and vacations, the recording of sick time, and submits bi-weekly for payroll.
21. Accountable for decisions regarding hiring, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, and termination of key subordinates within the facility Radiology department.
22. Accountable for the development of Radiology department staff and students through supervision, relevant formal and informal training, and other programs, with documentation of plans, results, and mutual feedback. Oversee the annual needs assessment, and incorporate identified needs into development plans. When relevant, select staff to attend outside seminars/programs.
23. Responsible for the orientation of all new Radiology department personnel according to department policy and procedure. Complete new employee orientation checklist with each new employee within specified time frame.
24. Plans, directs, and actively participates in the education of hospital personnel, medical staff, community agencies, and consumers regarding all relevant imaging modalities (including Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and CT Scan services) and program availability through presentation of in-service programs and attendance at meetings.  Obtains approval from the relevant facility parties and VP, Network Radiology.

Network and Local Collaboration and Education

25. Serve as a member of relevant facility or network committees, as assigned.
26. Must acquire and maintain competencies, certifications and continuing education in order to meet any facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.

Community and Industry Relations

27. Represents HMH and the facility in community, state, and national programs/organizations pertinent to Radiology and related fields.

Other

28. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
29. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Minimum of 3 years of acute care supervisory experience.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Master's (MA/MS/MSN/MBA/MPA) degree or similar.
2. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience preferred.
3. Experience with EPIC HIS system preferred.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Current Radiologic Technology Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or required licensing for any imaging department modalities.

Working Conditions:

Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs.
