Hudgins Design Group is a Dana Point, CA based residential design firm that offers a creative and collaborative work environment with a growing portfolio of work that seeks to be both beautiful and meaningful in every detail.


Currently, we are seeking a Project Manager/Architect to join our fast-paced and dynamic studio. The ideal candidate will bring extensive technical knowledge of architectural design and construction, with technical experience leading projects from concept through completion. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.


A Project Manager/Architect will lead and work hand-in-hand with the Principal and the design team to develop and deliver exceptional projects at varying scales and technical complexities. The right person for this role will be a thoughtful communicator, strategic thinker, and collaborative problem solver with an eye for craft, detail, and quality.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead the technical development of design and construction documents from concept through construction administration

  • Collaborate and communicate directly with technical contractors and material suppliers to achieve constructability

  • Collaborate closely with Job Captains, design staff, and consultants to ensure coordinated, high-quality project delivery

  • Provide mentorship, redlining, and technical guidance to junior team members

  • Frequent client and consultant code and zoning analyses, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations

  • Coordinate consultant work and integrate engineering systems into architectural drawings

  • Oversee document technical quality, accuracy, and consistency with office standards for project’s technical delivery, overseeing QA/QC

  • Engage in ongoing studio activities, project reviews, and advancement of firm culture

  • Coordinate and participate in client and consultant meetings

  • Protect the design intent while ensuring code compliance and technical delivery of construction details.

  • Participate and lead the project team throughout jobsite meetings while providing thorough follow up and solutions to the project team


Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s or Masters Degree in Architecture

  • 7-10+ years of professional experience, preferably including high-end residential or design-focused projects

  • Extensive experience in technical design development, detailing, and construction documentation

  • Strong technical skills with a deep understanding of building systems, construction methods, material selection, and detailing

  • Strong mentoring skills with the ability to support and guide junior staff

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software strongly preferred (Sketchup)

  • Proven experience guiding production teams through project timelines and deliverables

  • Significant experience in high-end single-family residential projects

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and coordination skills

  • Experience interacting with clients, consultants, and managing project communication

  • Ability to work closely with the firm principal and production team from schematic design through construction administration

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong time-management abilities

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines consistently

  • Passion for the firm\'s design portfolio

  • Active participation in firm-wide planning, drawing and document standards development, and professional studio growth initiatives
