ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Project Controls Manager provides enterprise-level leadership over project controls strategy, governance, and performance across a portfolio of utility-scale energy projects. You will be responsible for driving consistency, scalability, and optimization of cost and schedule performance while serving as a key advisor to executive leadership on project delivery risk, financial forecasting, and portfolio health.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Establish and lead the strategic direction for project controls across the organization, including governance frameworks, performance standards, and portfolio-level controls integration.
  • Oversee and optimize all project controls functions across a multi-project portfolio, including cost management, scheduling, forecasting, earned value, risk analysis, and reporting.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing insights into portfolio performance, financial exposure, schedule risks, and scenario-based forecasting.
  • Drive the development and implementation of standardized tools, systems, and reporting frameworks to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of project controls functions.
  • Lead portfolio-level budget planning, financial forecasting, and capital allocation support in partnership with Finance and executive stakeholders.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and performance metrics across all projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and identifying opportunities for optimization.
  • Oversee risk management practices across the portfolio, including identification, quantification, mitigation planning, and escalation of critical risks.
  • Provide executive-level reporting, including dashboards, board-level materials, and investment reporting, ensuring clarity and actionable insights.
  • Partner with Development, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Finance leadership to influence contract strategy, execution plans, and commercial decision-making.
  • Build, lead, and scale a high-performing project controls organization, including hiring, mentoring, and developing Managers and Specialists.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, data integration, and advanced analytics to enhance forecasting accuracy and decision-making.
  • Responsible for aspects of hiring, training, and developing employees, as well as managing the department's budget.
  • Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
  • Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, finance, accounting, business, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction project scheduling, project cost, or project management duties.
  • Certification: Professional Level certification through the AACE preferred (e.g. Certified Cost Professional, Planning & Scheduling Professional, Earned Value Professional, or Project Risk Management Professional). 
  • Technology:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
    • Expert experience with Primavera P6, Procore, Netsuite, and/or Microsoft Project.
    • Expert ability using Excel.
  • Skills/Attributes:
    • Ability to design and implement controls frameworks that scale across a growing organization.
    • Deep expertise in capital planning, portfolio forecasting, and financial risk management.
    • Strong presence and ability to influence C-suite and Board-level stakeholders through data-driven insights.
    • Ability to identify, implement, and use AI tools to efficiently support project controls.
    • Expertise in modeling complex scenarios and guiding decision-making under uncertainty.
    • Proven ability to drive adoption of advanced analytics, automation, and integrated systems for improved decision-making.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead highly effective teams, both internally and externally.
    • Self-motivated to work through complex problems and competing priorities, including a high level of detail and organization.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
