Job description

Description
The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Academic Pediatrics, seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of associate professor or full professor to serve as the Section Chief of Academic Pediatrics. In this role, the Section Chief will be responsible for enhancing the Section's clinical and academic excellence through program building, administrative leadership, and mentorship of the faculty and staff of the Section and the ambulatory clinics. The appointee will provide clinical care to pediatric patients and advancing equitable access to care at Comer Children's Hospital as well as ambulatory locations on our main campus in Hyde Park and a growing number of regional sites. In addition, the appointee will be expected to undertake research and scholarly activity in any area of basic, translational, or clinical research including but not limited to health outcomes, clinical trials and health interventions, health economics, population health, and/or informatics. Other responsibilities include teaching, mentoring, and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows as well as fostering a culture of inquiry and excellence in clinical education. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications.
This position is benefits-eligible. The University of Chicago offers a wide range of benefits programs and resources for eligible employees, including health, retirement, and paid time off. Information about the benefit offerings can be found in the Benefits Guidebook.
The appointee will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition of excellence in patient care, clinical and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the strong foundation for a career as an academic physician leader.
University of Chicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children's Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4 billion.
The Section of Academic Pediatrics is dedicated to managing the unique primary care needs of newborns, children, and adolescents on the South Side of Chicago. The scope of its clinical service covers both ambulatory sites located in Comer Children's Hospital and Hyde Park, service to a FQHC, and a growing number of regional sites. Its clinical programs include pediatric primary care, Child Advocacy and Protective Services, adolescent medicine, and the Comer Mobile Community Unit. We anticipate significant growth in the Section's academic faculty in the coming years.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be Board Certified in Pediatrics.
To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago's Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: https://apply.interfolio.com/175130.
