Responsibilities

Are you passionate about enhancing customer experiences through innovative solutions? Do you enjoy problem-solving and improving communications? Join our team and help craft the documents customers receive from State Farm!

We’re seeking a Software Engineer or a Lead Software Engineer for our batch Design & Development and On-Demand Composition Modernization teams within the Customer Communications product suite. You’ll collaborate with business, infrastructure, and application teams to design, develop, test, and support batch and on-demand applications using the OpenText Exstream composition toolset. Our team creates high-volume, customer-facing communications such as policy documents, renewal notices, billing statements, claim correspondence, and important notices—delivered by mail or online—while maintaining design and development standards to ensure quality.

This role supports the modernization of our communication tools, including adoption of cloud technologies. You’ll have meaningful opportunities to improve customer interactions across insurance and financial services products.

If you value quality, teamwork, and making an impact, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Prior software engineering and programming experience
  • Experience with composition software, preferably OpenText Exstream or similar tools, including shared components and content import functionality
  • Familiarity with data dictionaries and Exstream driver files
  • Experience with code repositories, shared forms, version control, and deployment of package files to testing and production environments
  • Understand the concept of APIs and JSON payload schemas
  • Understanding of API testing tools such as Postman or Insomnia
  • Understanding of or experience with different output formats (e.g., AFP, PDF)
  • Strong knowledge of data structures (e.g., XSD, XML, JSON) and data merge techniques
  • Ability to assess impacts on upstream and downstream processes, including troubleshooting
  • Awareness of coding standards for accessibility compliance

Desired Skills

These skills are a plus and will help you excel and grow in the position:

  • Understanding of Customer Communication Management (CCM) practices
  • Understanding of unit testing concepts and frameworks
  • Object-oriented programming experience; JavaScript or Python skills
  • Experience with additional OpenText Exstream tools (e.g., Communications Designer, Content Author, Empower)
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
