Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable, mature, and highly professional Liquor Store Cashier to join our team at Ventura's Offshore Cafe. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, exceptional reliability, and a collaborative mindset. You will be responsible for managing point-of-sale (POS) transactions, ensuring strict compliance with New Jersey alcohol laws, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining an organized, well-stocked retail space while working in harmony with other staff members.


Duties and Responsibilities

Sales & Transaction Management

  • Operate the cash register and point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
  • Process cash, credit, debit, and gift card transactions with a high level of precision and accountability.
  • Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring all receipts match sales reports.

Teamwork & Workplace Harmony

  • Maintain a positive, collaborative attitude to foster a harmonious and productive working environment with all team members.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with both front-of-house staff and management.

Regulatory Compliance & Age Verification

  • Strictly enforce age verification policies by checking valid government-issued identification for any customer purchasing age-restricted products.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of and compliance with New Jersey State division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) regulations.
  • Confidently and politely refuse sales to minors or intoxicated individuals.

Customer Service & Product Assistance

  • Greet customers warmly as they enter the store and provide an inviting shopping environment.
  • Assist guests with product selection, offering basic recommendations or directing them to specific beer, wine, or liquor categories when requested.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve any standard checkout issues with patience and professionalism.

Store Cleanliness & Upkeep

  • Maintain store cleanliness by strictly following the established daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
  • Stock shelves, coolers, and display racks with incoming inventory, ensuring proper product rotation (FIFO).
  • Keep the retail storefront, checkout counters, and floor area organized, clean, and welcoming for guests.
  • Monitor stock levels on the floor and notify management when popular items are running low.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience: Must have 5+ years of experience handling high-volume cash and credit card transactions accurately. Proven retail cashier experience within a liquor store or convenience store environment is highly preferred.
  • Professional Maturity: Must possess the personal maturity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills required to work seamlessly alongside a diverse staff.
  • Company Policies: Must strictly adhere to our "No Cell Phone Policy" while on shift to ensure full focus on customer service and store duties.
  • Reliability: A proven track record of punctuality, exceptional attendance, and personal accountability.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with NJ ABC rules regarding retail alcohol sales is preferred.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and comfortably lift or move cases of beer, wine, or liquor (up to 4050 lbs) as needed for restocking and cleaning.
  • Skills: Strong basic math proficiency, sharp attention to detail, and clear, respectful communication skills.
