Position Specific Description

The Director of Development Strategy will lead strategic projects, reporting analytics, and collaboration on NEER Development's annual strategy.  This on-site position is within NextEra Energy Resources' Generation & Storage Solutions organization and reports to the Executive Director.

This highly visible role involves supporting the collaboration and development of an annual corporate strategy presentation for the organization and participating in various strategic initiatives, including:

  1. Supporting the design and creation of the overall strategy for NextEra's Development organization, which involves:
    1. Working closely with senior leadership to develop business strategy and assist in crafting the narrative on the future direction
    2. Partnering cross-functionally with other business units to drive analysis on key topics and understand the implications of their strategy on future development
    3. Conducting detailed market assessments to understand expected future demand and market drivers by region, technology, and customer type
    4. Identifying the strategy opportunities that will drive growth, generate the highest value, and create future competitive advantage
    5. Assessing the current development pipeline and matching it against targets to understand gaps and develop our greenfield and M&A strategy
    6. Collaborating with regional development leaders to identify business issues critical to their strategic and operational success
    7. Presenting progress on solutions to leadership including relevant analysis, findings, and recommendations
    8. Developing tactical execution steps, resourcing requirements, and operational enablers to execute on the outlined strategy
  2. Support CEO priorities and analysis on critical issues impacting the development portfolio, which involves:
    1. Developing analysis and recommendations on macro issues impacting the development portfolio including impact from new legislation, tariffs, permitting changes, etc.
    2. Collaborating with Development and Origination leaders to identify critical issues, trade-offs, and process checks needed to steer and position projects proactively to maximize value creation
    3. Providing thought leadership and execution support to craft strategies and initiatives to improve and maximize value for energy projects across the development portfolio
    4. Developing relationships with business leaders and engaging in continuous dialogue to gather feedback, improve processes, and influence outcomes
    5. Possessing enough quantitative experience to effectively evaluate strategic initiatives, including project valuation, cost-benefit analysis, scenario analysis, NPV (net present value), and IRR (internal rate of return)

Job Overview

This position is responsible for using business management consulting skills to work with internal clients through all stages of strategy-based transformation engagements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Providing thought leadership and execution support on client assignments to craft strategy and then refocus an organization on making that strategy a reality
  • Consulting with clients to identify, clarify, and solve problems critical to clients' strategic and operating success by developing insight, conducting independent analysis, and working with clients to assure assignment progress
  • Developing conclusions and recommendations, writing reports, assisting in client presentations and providing implementation assistance as required
  • Presenting to senior executives Constructing the analytical framework and work steps for each assignment, and leading the problem solving associated
  • Conducting both client and market development to grow the business
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 4+ years
