JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Director of Finance leads all financial activity of the property involving accounting, financial analysis, cash operations, revenue audit, and purchasing.  They manage the timely preparation and interpretation of financial reports and establish and maintain the necessary internal controls required to safeguard the property’s assets and their integrity in compliance with gaming and other State and Federal regulations and established accounting and financial standards. Member of the SAR Review Committee and oversees initiatives to ensure compliance with the Company BSA/AML Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creates and implements procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records, affording adequate accounting controls and services.  Develops and implements standard accounting, analysis and reporting procedures. Safeguards all assets and company funds.
  • Responsible for coordinating the accurate preparation and distribution of the property’s budget and financial reporting.
  • Continuously monitors, analyzes and reports on the financial performance of the property including key metrics, forecasting, labor effectiveness and capital projects.  Issues financial and operating reports.    
  • Prepares capital and operating plans and evaluates the results of the operation.
  • Forecasts, analyzes and utilizes financial information to advise management on financial matters and the development of organization plans and strategies.
  • Reviews financial activities with Vice President, General Manager, Directors, and Managers as necessary.  Responsible for financial reporting to Churchill Downs Incorporated.
  • Monitors activities of reporting departments for adherence to company policies and gaming regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees finance and cage initiatives to ensure compliance with the Company Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) Program.
  • Determines staffing requirements of assigned departments consistent with operational efficiencies.
  • Directs department managers and supervisors in responsible areas by counseling, guiding and instructing them in the proper performance of their duties.
  • Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication upward, downward and laterally.
  • Maintains an updated knowledge of Gaming Laws/Regulations applicable to areas of responsibility.
  • Reports to property Vice President and General Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Management abilities demonstrated in effectively managing finance operations.
  • Excellent analytical, financial modeling, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. 
  • Strong leadership and management abilities, with a track record of successfully leading diverse teams. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with senior and executive management required. 
  • Adherence to Code of Conduct and all Calder Casino policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and promote our business strategy.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for Team Members to allow open communication.
  • Strong oral and written communications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. 
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and analysis, and at least 3 years of experience managing a financial department.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word) and financial reporting systems (SAP and/or JD Edwards).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience in gaming financial analysis and accounting and casino operations preferred.
  • Extensive experience in financial accounting, treasury management, budgeting, and cost accounting.
  • Guest service experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid gaming license.
