Location: Sandhills Global Event Center, 4100 N 84th Street, Lincoln Nebraska

Hours:  Full & Part Time Hours Available

Salary: $15.00-15.66 Hourly

Fast-growing, dynamic, public event center is looking for an Operations Team Member to support upcoming events including the Lancaster County Super Fair.

With 400,000 square feet of multi-use spaces on 160 acres, Sandhills Global Event Center (SGEC) has grown into one of Nebraska’s premier destinations for regional, national, and international events. It now proudly hosts over 500+ event days annually, drawing over 564,000 visitor days each year, and generating up to $72 million in economic impact through out-of-county visitor spending.

Home to the second-largest indoor agricultural show in the U.S. and the largest rodeo in the world, SGEC has earned a national reputation as a top-tier venue. With expert staff and stewardship from the Lancaster County Agricultural Society, SGEC continues to serve the community and drive economic impact through a diverse and ever-growing lineup of events.

Our mission is to share experiences that showcase the agricultural nature of Lancaster County and to be a major contributor to the county’s youth, culture, and economy. SGEC provides a safe and fun environment for families all year. However, we are especially focused on our youth and their families during Super Fair week

Job Summary:

Operations Team Members support the cleaning, maintenance, setup, teardown, and overall execution of events across the SGEC campus. The role is hands-on, often physically demanding, and requires operating a wide range of equipment while serving as a versatile “jack of all trades” for event operations.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

(Includes, but is not limited to)

Operations & Event Support

  • Set up and tear down event equipment: chairs, tables, staging, barricades, carpet, signage, etc.
  • Prepare arenas, pens, and livestock stalls; install, clean, and maintain livestock areas.
  • Support diverse functions including guest services, parking lot management, campground services, ticket taking, security and food & beverage support (bars/cafés).
  • Perform snow removal and seasonal grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Load/unload delivery trucks, replenish supplies, and transport trash/waste to proper disposal areas.
  • Assist with pre-/post-event cleaning and janitorial tasks (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, carpet cleaning, etc.).
  • Assist security with securing doors, ushering, and basic crowd control.

Facilities Maintenance

  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance (painting, patching, replacing ceiling tiles/filters, etc.).
  • Identify, report, and help resolve irregularities, discrepancies, safety issues, damage, or loss of property promptly to the Operations Supervisor.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • Willingness to learn animal show procedures, event setup standards, and facility cleaning/maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate a variety of equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and adherence to safety rules with and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. comfortably and perform strenuous physical duties (lifting, carrying, moving, climbing).
  • Effective verbal and written communication; able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight timelines.
  • Familiarity with building systems (HVAC, lighting) and A/V is a plus.

Qualifications:

  • Honest, trustworthy, reliable, flexible, and committed to going above and beyond.
  • Agriculture background/interest preferred but not required.
  • Must be 19 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for certain equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working at heights (lifts).
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety protocols.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced event environment with fluctuating workloads.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, livestock, cleaning chemicals, and outdoor elements.
  • Evening, weekend, holiday, and irregular hours required based on event schedules.
