Software Engineering Manager 5451

Cloud, Mobile & IoT Platforms

Location: Hybrid (Galleria Area)
Compensation: $150K-$155K Base + 10% Bonus (Total Target Compensation: $165K-$170.5K)

Tier4 Group is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for developing and enhancing a cloud-connected platform that combines web, mobile, and IoT technologies.

This is a player-coach leadership role ideal for a Lead Engineer looking to move into management or a hands-on Engineering Manager who enjoys staying close to architecture, technology decisions, and delivery execution.

We are looking for a leader who can balance technical credibility with strong people leadership. You'll oversee a team of approximately six engineers, drive engineering execution, remove obstacles, mentor developers, and ensure the successful delivery of business-critical initiatives. This role is focused on outcomes, collaboration, and team success rather than managing large organizations or operating solely at a strategic level.

What You'll Do

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 6 software engineers.
  • Drive execution across multiple product initiatives and ensure successful delivery against business objectives.
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and a high-performance engineering culture.
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Customer Success teams to align technical priorities with customer and business needs.
  • Help establish team goals, delivery expectations, and development best practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Remain actively involved in architecture discussions and key technical decisions.
  • Guide development efforts across backend services, cloud infrastructure, web applications, mobile applications, and connected-device systems.
  • Conduct design and code reviews to ensure quality, scalability, maintainability, and security.
  • Champion engineering excellence through CI/CD automation, testing, monitoring, and operational best practices.

Platform Growth & Innovation

  • Support the development and scaling of cloud-connected applications and IoT-enabled solutions.
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, fault tolerance, and security.
  • Lead integrations with third-party SaaS applications, identity providers, and external technology platforms.
  • Coordinate with development partners and vendors to support strategic initiatives and product delivery.

Required Qualifications

Must-Have Experience

  • 3+ years of engineering leadership experience managing software development teams.
  • Strong hands-on software engineering background with the ability to contribute to architectural and technical discussions.
  • Proven experience delivering and scaling cloud-connected platforms.
  • Strong experience with GoLang and AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience leading full-stack development teams across backend, web, and mobile technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, release management, monitoring, and production operations.
  • Demonstrated success driving delivery, execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience will help candidates stand out:

  • IoT, connected-device, smart access, access control, or hardware-connected software platforms.
  • Experience with cloud-connected products that interact with physical devices.
  • React, TypeScript, and React Native development experience.
  • Native mobile development using Swift and/or Kotlin.
  • Third-party integration experience including APIs, OAuth, and SAML.
  • Security expertise including RBAC, authentication, encryption, TLS, and device provisioning.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams delivering both software and hardware-connected products.
  • Experience working with external vendors, consultants, and development partners.

Ideal Candidate Profile
