AltaGas - Manager, Strategic Planning & Analysis

AltaGas is seeking a Manager, Strategic Planning & Analysis to join our Midstream team in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Planning & Analysis, this role plays a key part in shaping AltaGas Midstream's growth strategy through disciplined capital investment decision-making.

This role is responsible for leading the growth capital governance process, evaluating strategic investment opportunities, and providing decision support to senior leadership. The successful candidate will combine strong financial and commercial acumen with leadership capabilities to ensure capital is deployed effectively, investment risks are understood, and projects deliver their expected value. Through collaboration with Business Development, Commercial, and other key stakeholders, the Manager will help drive disciplined capital allocation and continuous improvement in investment decision-making.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of professionals involved in the review and financial evaluation of capital projects and other strategic investments
  • Foster a culture of analytical rigor, continuous improvement, and accountability
  • Manage the growth capital approval process and governance framework, including preparing materials for and facilitating the monthly leadership review meetings
  • Assess capital investment recommendations for strategic fit, financial returns, risks, and alignment with corporate objectives
  • Challenge modeling assumptions and identify key decisions, risks, and opportunities to improve investment outcomes
  • Partner closely with the Business Development and Commercial teams to help them navigate the company's capital approval process
  • Develop and maintain project evaluation standards that capture best practices in financial modeling, valuation, and investment analysis
  • Develop and administer a post-investment review process to evaluate project performance against approved business cases
  • Identify lessons learned and make recommendations to improve financial model accuracy and future investment decision-making
  • Provide analytical support for long-range planning, strategic initiatives, and capital planning processes
  • Support additional strategic planning and analytical priorities as business needs evolve

What You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate finance, corporate development, or related roles (e.g., investment banking, private equity, or pension funds)
  • Proven track record of developing and leading high-performing teams
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and economic analysis skills with experience building complex financial models in Excel
  • Experience evaluating large capital projects and strategic investments
  • Experience in developing investment recommendations for executive leadership or board committees
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly and concisely in executive-ready materials
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and to build strong relationships
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to own and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in energy, midstream, or infrastructure sectors is considered an asset
  • CFA, CBV, MBA, or other relevant advanced designation is considered an asset
