Job description

Description
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist or Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a variety of complex nuclear medicine imaging and laboratory procedures, including the use of positron emission tomography (PET), that require independent judgment and initiative in order to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing or treating patient illness.
Position Responsibilities
  • Performs complex PET examinations
  • Demonstrates and displays a thorough knowledge of PET tracers and their relation to molecular physiological functions
  • Provides instruction to new and current staff technologists, students and medical staff
  • Evaluates equipment performance, recognize image artifacts, and initiate corrective action, when needed
  • Develops PET examinations; creates written protocols and scanning parameters
  • Explains and demonstrate methodologies for procedures, equipment and devices to residents, physicians, students and staff new hires
  • Develops, implements and evaluates technology required for new procedures
  • Troubleshoots computer or equipment malfunctions
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family. Provide liaison between medical staff and patients, patients' families, and hospital staff.

Schedule: M-F: 0800-1630 or 10 hours, 4 days/week: 0700-1730. Hours are based on clinic availability

Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience Requirements
Consideration for the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist position requires the following:
  • 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in Nuclear Medicine and dedicated PET procedures and related computer applications
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex PET examinations
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and implement new projects in PET that advance new clinical applications or research endeavors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Certification Requirements
Consideration for the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist position requires the following:
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in nuclear medicine
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in PET
  • Certification as a Nuclear Medical Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP)
Consideration for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist position requires the following:
  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in nuclear medicine
  • Certification as a Nuclear Medical Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP)
Desirable Qualifications
  • PET research experience
  • Strong organizational skills
