Description
The Network Engineering Lead is responsible for the design, engineering, administration, optimization, and security compliance of the enterprise WAN, LAN, MPLS, internet connectivity, routing, switching, and perimeter security infrastructure supporting mission and business operations.
Location: Rockville, MD
Salary: 118,000-150,000
Clearance: SECRET or L Clearance
• Engineer and maintain enterprise WAN/MPLS circuits, LAN switching infrastructure, routing configurations, firewall appliances, VPN gateways, and network segmentation controls ensuring high availability, redundancy, and performance stability aligned with enterprise uptime SLAs
• Monitor bandwidth utilization, network latency, packet loss metrics, and circuit health using enterprise monitoring platforms, proactively addressing performance degradation before SLA impact occurs
• Administer firewall rule sets, VPN configurations, and network access controls ensuring alignment with enterprise cybersecurity control frameworks and integration with SIEM logging requirements
• Coordinate circuit provisioning, carrier management, and colocation/data center connectivity to ensure continuity of interconnections and regional network performance
• Conduct root cause analysis for network outages or performance incidents and present technical findings and mitigation plans to executive leadership
• Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes for network configuration changes, firmware updates, routing adjustments, and security policy modifications to ensure proper documentation and risk validation
• Maintain network architecture diagrams, IP address management documentation, capacity forecasts, and performance dashboards to support governance oversight and audit readiness
• Support disaster recovery exercises by validating network failover configurations, redundant path testing, and restoration timelines in coordination with business continuity and disaster recovery leadership
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree; 8+ years relevant experience; design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure; monitor network performance; troubleshoot connectivity issues; optimize routing and switching configurations; ensure network security and operational stability; support enterprise network engineering initiatives.
Master's Degree with 6+ years or Associate's Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience may be substituted.
• Experience engineering WAN/MPLS, LAN routing and switching, firewall, VPN, and perimeter security environments
• Knowledge of bandwidth monitoring, circuit management, and carrier coordination processes
• Experience configuring routing protocols and network segmentation controls
• Familiarity with firewall rule management and secure remote access configurations
• Experience integrating network logs with enterprise SIEM platforms
