My NASA Data Fellow
My NASA Data Fellow
ADNET is seeking a full-time Instructional Design Fellow for NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) Science Directorate's My NASA Data team in Hampton VA. My NASA Data provides educators in grades 3-12 with accessible and usable authentic NASA Earth data and resources. The project provides curated datasets, visualizations, and a data visualization tool, the Earth System Data Explorer, to help learners develop a deeper understanding of Earth's systems. These resources support science curricula and cultivate crucial skills for future STEM engagement and workforce readiness.
The successful candidate will have experience with implementing My NASA Data resources in an educational setting, student data literacy, and place-based education, or citizen science. The objective for the term is to develop new content to facilitate teacher implementation of the Earth System Data Explorer for student inquiry. This will include developing data bundles and pathways, plans for a pilot "data jam" program, and a Train-the-Trainer program for teachers. It will also include content development to achieve specific objectives which may include background information, lesson plans, data use descriptions, teacher implementation resources, and other tasks as assigned.
This is currently anticipated to be a one-year position, maybe extendable depending on availability of funds. Remote work is possible.
Required Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:
  • Graduate degree in data literacy, Earth or Environmental Science, Science Education/Communication, Math Education or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge and experience with The GLOBE Program, My NASA Data, data literacy skill development, and place-based education
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in developing and providing Earth/environmental engagement products and/or programs for diverse audiences
  • Experience researching relevant science content and incorporating it into resources
  • Experience in designing, developing, and providing successful professional development for diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently from project leadership and to work effectively with a distributed remote team
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working with multiple organizations, stakeholders, and partners

Knowledge of basic remote sensing:
USA Citizenship or PR and ability to successfully pass a background investigation and obtain a NASA badge
Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Preferred
PhD in Data Literacy, science, education, or a related discipline; 15 years of experience
Experience using a content management system and maintaining online content, including version control
Instructional design experience
GIS experience
Experience supporting large scale engagement efforts
GLOBE Trained
