Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Senior Open Pit Engineer to join ur Carlin operation. The successful candidate is responsible for Develop and communicate engineering plans, sequences, dumping priorities, etc. to operations and other stakeholders on site and ensure plans are carried out safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead group in safety inspections, safety interactions, fatality risk management, and other safety initiatives
  • Lead annual life of mine business planning activities including all aspects of mine design, scheduling and costing for the surface operations
  • Apply sound engineering principles to create mine designs for surface mining
  • Work with regional strategic planning to create and implement optimized mine plans and produce annual reserves and resources reporting
  • Lead engineering project work for Long Canyon Phase II expansion, working closely with Phase II project manager, environmental, and hydrology to achieve all permitting and design requirements on time.
  • Help develop exploration targets as well as life of mine reclamation plans
  • Research and evaluate equipment, designs, procedures and process to optimize ore extraction and profitability
  • Provide capital expenditure estimates including annual and long term equipment plans
  • Analyze monthly site operations control reports, compiling expenditures, accruals and forecast and taking appropriate action
  • Cooperate, communicate and work effectively with team members from across the site to achieve goals and overcome challenges
  • Inform associates and supervisors of plans, opportunities and pitfalls associated with engineering designs and schedules
  • Clearly communicate verbally and in writing to minimize misunderstandings
  • Mentor engineering staff through effective coaching
  • Participate in detailed succession planning for growth and development of employees
  • Ensure complete compliance with all company and industry regulations
  • Be familiar with current software including Vulcan, Deswik, Xeras, Minestar/Terrain and MineMax 
  • Other duties as assigned     

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement: B.S. degree in Engineering and a minimum of 10 years experience in a specialty area are necessary, including supervising an engineering area or project management required
  • Advanced level technical communications, personal interaction and presentations skills required
  • At least 5 years of the 10 years at a medium operating mine site required
  • Proven leadership and strong negotiation skills required
