SUMMARY
The Revenue Accountant reports directly to the Revenue Accounting Manager and is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely accounting of revenue generated from natural gas, crude oil, NGLs, and related midstream services. This position performs revenue accounting activities from production through settlement, verifies volumes and pricing, prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, and supports month-end close in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable contracts. The Revenue Accountant works closely with the Commercial, Measurement, Operations, Land, and Accounting teams to ensure the integrity of revenue reporting, accurate customer settlements, and compliance with contractual obligations. This role also supports internal and external audits and contributes to continuous process improvements within the Revenue Accounting function.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform monthly revenue accounting activities for natural gas, crude oil, NGLs, gathering, transportation, compression, processing, and other midstream assets.
  • Process purchaser statements, settlement statements, and revenue distributions accurately and timely.
  • Validate production volumes, measurement data, pricing, and contract terms prior to revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries related to revenue, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Reconcile revenue accounts, accounts receivable, production volumes, and general ledger balances.
  • Investigate and resolve volume, pricing, allocation, and payment discrepancies with internal departments and third-party customers.
  • Review and analyze contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition and settlement calculations.
  • Coordinate with Measurement, Operations, Commercial, and Land departments to resolve production and allocation issues.
  • Prepare monthly revenue reports, variance analyses, and management reporting.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Participate in special projects, acquisitions, and system implementations as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA is preferred.

Experience
  • 3+ years of revenue accounting experience within the oil and gas industry required.
  • Midstream revenue accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with gathering, processing, transportation, and NGL accounting is highly desirable.
  • Experience with production accounting systems and ERP software preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of oil and gas revenue accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Knowledge of production volumes, settlement statements, contracts, pricing, and allocations.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and identify discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and formulas.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Primarily office-based environment in Dallas or Houston, TX.
  • May require extended hours during month-end and year-end close.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, audits, or company meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to field locations, offices, and operational facilities as needed.
