New York University Tandon School of Engineering
The Sustainable Engineering Initiative at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Post Doctoral Associate to develop, manage and contribute to the research on a new Center on Microplastics Solutions.

The NYU Sustainable Engineering Initiative (SEI) at NYU Tandon aims to develop engineering solutions to avoid, mitigate, and remediate emissions responsible for climate change and environmental contamination.
Plastics are vital to human prosperity - from the everyday items in our homes to the medical devices that extend our healthspan and the materials that solve our most urgent technological challenges. However, there are drawbacks to the widespread use of plastics. Among the most pressing issues is the proliferation of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), which have been recognized as a major problem for the environment and public health. Achieving the combined goals of thriving societies and a thriving planet requires a new generation of polymer materials that maintain or improve the performance of existing materials while minimizing or eliminating the formation of harmful micro- and nanoplastic byproducts throughout their lifecycle. We are looking to engage a postdoctoral associate who will help create, manage, and contribute to the research and growth of a new center focused on microplastics solutions.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for establishing the structure of a new center for microplastics solutions, coordinating research activities between multiple research groups, performing research on microplastics solutions as it relates to the molecular design and processing of polymers that avoid their degradation into harmful particles, and assisting the leadership of the new center with fundraising activities.
The successful candidate associate will report directly to the SEI Director, Prof. Miguel Modestino, and will likely be co-advised by other faculty members of the center.
Salary range
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $70,000 depending on the candidate's experience and qualification.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. We welcome applicants with recent PhDs and individuals seeking additional postdoctoral training. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in polymer science and engineering, including synthesis and characterization, as exemplified by a strong publication record. Previous experience in research automation, high-throughput experimentation, computational proficiency, experience preparing research proposals, and demonstrated leadership experience are desired.
