Description
At the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Division of Education plays a crucial role supporting theDepartment and the reentry of offenders back into the community. The mission of the Division of Education isto prepare every offender through the advancement of academic achievement and work ready skills for successfulreentry.
As education corrections professionals, it is our job to assist in the rehabilitation and reentry of offendersby working within the Department, with community partners, and state agencies to increase community safety andreduce recidivism rates. The administrative specialist will provide support to the Luther Luckett CorrectionalComplex Education Center in planning, facilitating, and coordinating educational opportunities within thecorrectional environment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serves as administrative liaison and point of contact for the Education Center at the institution for otherprogramming, facility leadership, and for all school related activities.
  • Responsible for acting on behalf ofthe Corrections Regional Education Administrator (CREA) when he/she is away from the school.
  • Plans and organizes all administrative duties of the office (i.e., record keeping, inmate state pay, meetingminutes, maintain incentives, notification memos, etc.).
  • Utilizes Kentucky Offender Management System (KOMS), Technical Education Database System (TEDS), SharePointin addition to all other office equipment and computer software applications in order to process and accountfor inmate student attendance and program enrollment criteria, including educational history verification forinmates.
  • Responsible for school purchases and inventory including teaching supplies and vocational program machinerymaintenance records.
  • Maintains credentials with Pearson VUE as a Certified Test Administrator in order to proctor student GEDExams and Ready-Test Exams in partnership with KY Adult Education; schedule, account for, proctor andadminister GED Exams to inmates while maintaining records in GED Manager.
  • Develop and implement processes to assist in the complex task of GED Accreditation for institutions.
  • Gather, compile, maintain, and coordinate various data, data analysis, reporting as required by theinstitution and Central Office including grant reports, academic, vocational, and other reportingrequirements.
  • Maintains certification in the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) administration.
  • Administers the TABEtesting program to include registration, testing sessions, scoring, dissemination of results, and recording inKOMS.
  • Provide security daily by overseeing building janitors and making security rounds. Enter attendance forbuilding janitors in KOMS.
  • Prepare supply orders for building custodial needs.
  • Submit work orders for repairsneeded in the Education Center.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.

The ideal candidate should be able to multitask with the ability to plan, pay attention to detail,think critically and analyze data to forecast positive outcomes. This candidate should possess the ability towork well in a team-oriented environment and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the Department, Division, andfacility.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
