Job Overview:
Injection Mold Design Engineer
The Injection Mold Design Engineer is responsible for material selection, injection molding design, tooling feasibility, process development support, and molded-product reliability for Premier PV's solar eBOS products. This role supports overmolded assemblies, inline fuse products, harness components, connectors, strain reliefs, molded housings, and related eBOS product families.
This position bridges product design, polymer/material science, tooling design, manufacturing process control, supplier qualification, and testing. The role supports Premier PV to develop safe, reliable, manufacturable, cost-effective, and certifiable molded products for outdoor PV applications.
Company Overview:
Premier PV is a leading manufacturer of solar electrical balance of systems solutions and renewable energy products, dedicated to advancing sustainable energy technologies. Our mission is to provide innovative, efficient, and reliable products that enhance solar energy systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as Premier PV's Design Engineer supporting Engineering Managers for injection molding, overmolding, insert molding, resin selection, moldability, and molded-product architecture.
  • Support design and development of overmolded PV harness products, inline fuse assemblies, molded strain reliefs, connector interfaces, molded housings, and related eBOS product components.
  • Evaluate and recommend polymer/material systems including PPS, PPA, TPV, LSR, PP-based compounds, thermally conductive electrically insulating compounds, and other engineered materials for outdoor PV use.
  • Review and interpret material properties including RTI, UL Yellow Card data, f1/f2 outdoor suitability, dielectric strength, CTI, flammability, water absorption, thermal conductivity, shrink rate, mechanical strength, and long-term aging behavior.
  • Assist with mold design input for gate location, runner strategy, parting line, venting, flash control, weld-line risk, wire positioning, insert retention, wall thickness, draft, ribs, bosses, radii, and dimensional stability.
  • Perform or review moldflow, shrink/warpage, filling, packing, cooling, and process-window analysis for new and existing molded products.
  • Support UL 9703, UL 1741, UL 6703, UL 746C, UL 94, and other applicable certification or listing activities as they relate to molded assemblies and polymer materials.
  • Work with NRTL/test agencies, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to define test plans, pre-compliance reviews, construction packages, and material-rating justifications.
  • Develop tooling specifications, supplier RFQs, mold acceptance criteria, first-article inspection requirements, and production readiness checklists.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and operations to improve DFM, DFS, DFI, cost, cycle time, yield, reliability, and repeatability.
  • Partner with Design Engineering Manager to create and maintain internal design standards, material-selection guides, mold-design checklists, validation templates, and lessons-learned documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 3- 5+ years of experience in injection molding, overmolding, insert molding, tooling design, polymer material selection, or molded-product development.
  • Intermediate understanding of engineered thermoplastics, elastomers, high-temperature polymers, UV/outdoor-rated materials, flame-rated materials, and electrically insulating materials.
  • Experience with molded products used in electrical, outdoor, automotive, renewable energy, industrial, or high-reliability applications.
  • Working knowledge of mold design principles including gate/runner design, venting, parting lines, cooling, shrink/warpage, flash control, draft, wall thickness, ribs, bosses, and dimensional tolerancing.
  • Intermediate understanding of material datasheets, UL Yellow Cards, RTI, CTI, dielectric strength, UL 94, f1/f2 outdoor ratings, and thermal aging considerations.
  • Ability to evaluate molded assemblies for thermal, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and manufacturability risks.
  • Experience working with suppliers, toolmakers, molders, resin manufacturers, test labs, and cross-functional product teams.
  • Strong documentation discipline, technical communication skills, and ability to explain complex material/tooling decisions to engineering, quality, sourcing, manufacturing, and leadership teams.

Company Overview:
Empowering Progress: Premier PV leads in eBOS manufacturing, prioritizing innovation and quality. Committed to transparent practices, we deliver cutting-edge solutions that exceed client expectations, shaping a sustainable future in the energy industry.
Benefits:
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Paid Time Off
