Surgery Vet Technician

For over a 100 years, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need. We're currently seeking full-time experienced Surgery Vet Technician for our Pinellas Clinic, opening September 1st!

  • Holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation.
  • Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal, under supervision of Veterinarian.
  • Prepares patient, medications, and equipment for surgery.
  • Performs routine laboratory tests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Provides nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Ability to place intravenous catheter in cephalic or saphenous vein.
  • Performs TPR; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
  • Able to set up intravenous fluids.
  • Administers subcutaneous fluids.
  • Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Preparation of animals for anesthesia and surgery, including placement of IV catheters and monitoring anesthesia.
  • Perform venipuncture (taking blood samples) from animals
  • Assist the veterinarian with restraining patients for pre-op exams when needed.
  • Run a variety of lab tests and taking digital x-rays
  • Other duties assigned by management.

MUST HAVE SURGERY EXPERIENCE AS A VET TECH TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION. Only candidates with the required experience will be considered for this position.

  • $23.00 starting rate
  • $25.00 starting rate for CVT's (Certified Vet Techs)
  • $2,500 SIGN ON BONUS
  • Very Generous benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid-time off and paid holidays!!! Employees get their birthdays off (after 90days of employment)!!!
Qualifications Education

Required

High School or better.
