FLSA Classification: Full Time, Non Exempt AFSCME

Salary Range: $30.43-$36.31/hr DOQ

Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Horticulture and Golf Grounds or the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Mechanic develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for all of the Golf Courses assets. This program includes the diagnostics and repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and reporting equipment preventative maintenance procedures and repairs in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Responsible for monitoring, inspecting and reporting quality-of-cut, after-cut-appearance, effective height-of-cut, and bench settings
  • Manage and maintain equipment of all types and sizes with gas, diesel, 2-cycle engines, Hydraulic and electric systems.
  • During the winter season, perform equipment maintenance, repairs, services, and grinding on all equipment to ensure the fleet is ready for the upcoming season
  • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
  • Work with the Director of Horticulture and Golf Grounds and Superintendent for equipment purchases to accommodate agronomics and facility needs.
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and regulations, acting appropriately to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Clean and organize the main shop for a safe work environment
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining stock of PPE for Grounds Crew

Hours

Union, Full time, 40 hours a week position. May require days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and equipment and in outdoor weather conditions. Employee frequently works in precarious situations and is exposed to fumes, airborne particles and other hazards and elements associated with shop sites. The noise level within the employee’s work environment frequently exceeds the normal decibel levels.

Must be able to grip, clasp, hold and carry necessary tools and equipment that are an essential part of the job. Must be able to ambulate in such ways that permit the successful completion of projects that are an essential part of the job. Ability to stand for long periods of time, climb, stoop, squat, and bend to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment. Discern colors, work effectively with all levels of staff; develop and maintain records and automated systems for tracking and monitoring work and inventories. Lift 50lbs occasionally.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • Technical training and/or certification in equipment repair and maintenance required
  • Welding Experience Required

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course preferred
  • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications preferred
  • CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of hire
