Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Bolingbrook, IL

Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site

Industry: Mechanical Construction / HVAC


About the Opportunity

A growing mechanical contractor in the Chicagoland area is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to its engineering team. The company specializes in complex HVAC and mechanical systems and works closely with its project management, estimating, and field teams to take projects from initial design through construction.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who wants to be closer to the construction side of the industry and see their designs come to life in the field.


Responsibilities

  • Design and develop HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Perform equipment selections, load calculations, duct sizing, piping sizing, and other mechanical calculations.
  • Produce and review mechanical drawings, layouts, and construction documents.
  • Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to develop mechanical designs and coordinate project drawings.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other trades.
  • Work closely with project managers, estimators, BIM/VDC teams, and field personnel.
  • Assist with equipment selection and review mechanical equipment specifications.
  • Support projects throughout design, preconstruction, and construction.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and project documentation as needed.
  • Help identify design conflicts and provide practical solutions that can be implemented in the field.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate with internal teams, clients, engineers, and subcontractors.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Experience designing HVAC or mechanical building systems.
  • Experience within an MEP consulting firm, mechanical contractor, or design-build environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of HVAC equipment, ductwork, hydronic piping, and mechanical system design.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • EIT or PE license is a plus but not required.
