Job description

Elementary Music Teacher
Position Summary
The Elementary Music Teacher fosters a love of music while supporting the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional development of students in a Catholic school environment. The teacher provides engaging, age-appropriate music instruction that integrates Catholic values and traditions, promotes musical literacy, and encourages students to develop their God-given talents through singing, movement, instrumental performance, and creative expression.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver standards-based music instruction for students in grades PreK-8.
  • Develop lessons in vocal music, rhythm, music theory, movement, listening skills, and basic instrumental performance.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, values, and liturgical music into classroom instruction when appropriate.
  • Prepare students for school liturgies, prayer services, concerts, and other special events.
  • Direct student performances, including seasonal programs and school celebrations.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and positive classroom environment that encourages creativity and participation.
  • Assess student progress using a variety of formal and informal methods and communicate progress with parents and school administration.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administration, parish staff, and families to support student learning.
  • Maintain classroom materials, instruments, and music library in good condition.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities.
  • Uphold and model the mission, philosophy, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification (preferred).
  • Experience teaching elementary music preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to accompany students on piano or other instrument preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, or willingness to support and uphold the mission and values of Catholic education.

  • Strong vocal and instrumental music skills.
  • Ability to engage young learners through interactive and creative instruction.
  • Knowledge of elementary music curriculum and instructional technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a faith-filled, nurturing learning environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, use stairs, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods.
  • Ability to conduct rehearsals and supervise students during performances and school events.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a school setting and includes classroom instruction, rehearsals, liturgical celebrations, concerts, and occasional evening or weekend events. The Elementary Music Teacher is expected to serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, Christian values, and a commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
