About the Job
General Summary of Position
The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist (CI Pharmacist) is responsible for the technologies supporting Pharmacy operations and Medication Management. The CI Pharmacist works collaboratively with patient care teams Pharmacy departmental leadership Quality Medication Safety Performance Improvement clinical leadership and Information Systems. This associate is an expert in the use of technology to optimize medication processes through automation EMR electronic decision support and data analytics and reporting. Using knowledge of pharmacy practice and informatics concepts the CI Pharmacist is responsible for effective process design translation of requests into system specifications priority setting troubleshooting and issue resolution and ongoing management and support of the Pharmacy systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Coordinates the department's technology/automation services and enhancements to include: facilitating hardware and software design needs build testing maintenance and implementation of automation technologies.
  • Completes appropriate localized build for the EMR and pharmacy systems. Follows all Information Services change management policies and procedures.
  • Performs project management for Pharmacy technology initiatives. Develops and manages work plans driving accountability to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Develops and implements effective and measurable training programs to ensure the consistent safe and efficient use of IT systems.
  • Develops implements maintains and communicates effective and reliable downtime processes and procedures.
  • Manages and troubleshoots day to day hardware and software needs and issues. Effectively escalates and communicates risks and issues while communicating status updates.
  • Performs quarterly audits and reconciles user access to non-active directly linked systems to ensure associates have the appropriate level of access.
  • Participates in development testing monitoring and evaluation of electronic medication decision support for continuous improvement and advancement in the EMR.
  • Ensures and responsible for documentation of business requirements data dictionaries operational support guides and other relevant documentation to support design development governance and sustainment of dashboards and analytic tools.
  • Prepares and participates in presentations in-services facilities tours etc. for internal and external customers and regulatory agencies to promote pharmacy and medication use information system optimization though out the MedStar system.
  • Collaborates with clinical informatics across the system to ensure the department is aligned with MedStar practices/processes and provides feedback for improvements.
  • Consistently participates in the face-to-face Pharmacy informatics team meetings.
  • Serves as liaison to the MedStar IT team to ensure ongoing reliability efficiency and advancement of the EMR and automated dispensing infusion and pharmacy point of care technologies.
  • Performs duties of the Patient Care Pharmacist to ensure prompt and accurate dispensing of all inpatient medications.
  • Provides input and assists in the development of hospital goals objectives policies and procedures relative to clinical informatics.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with Pharmacy leadership and associates.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required required or
    • Advanced degree preferred
    Experience
    • 3-4 years Pharmacy practice required and
    • 1-2 years Pharmacy Informatics experience or training required
    • Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
    • Experience working on patient safety initiatives and IT systems related to Pharmacy/EMR preferred
    Licenses and Certifications
    • RPH - Registered Pharmacist in Maryland and/or DC Upon Hire required
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Critical thinking reasoning and problem solving. Strong interpersonal skills organizational awareness and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with pharmacy applications related to automation EMR and data and reporting. Ability to function independently and as a team player in a multi-hospital environment required. Highly experienced with MS Office suite especially Excel.

    USD $120,702.00 - USD $238,222.00 /Yr.
