Job description

We're looking for motivated, engaged people to help make everyone's journeys better.

The role is responsible for ensuring company compliance with all applicable environmental standards, legal requirements, and company/customer policies. This position leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental programs that support regulatory obligations as well as the company's ESG goals and objectives. The individual will collaborate across organizational functions and with customers to drive key initiatives and measurable results. They will proactively identify improvement opportunities, develop preventive and sustainable solutions, and ensure full adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits, licenses, and all applicable company and customer requirements.
  • Evaluates, quantifies, and reports environmental risks, including operational impacts, cost implications, required modifications, and adherence to applicable standards.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and communicates environmental performance metrics, trends, targets, and financial impacts aligned with regulatory requirements, company goals, and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Reviews environmental guidelines, procedures, and controls to ensure alignment with applicable regulations, rules, and industry best practices.
  • Develops and implements integrated waste-control and sustainability strategies that support waste reduction, recycling optimization, and emissions control by identifying and deploying improvement opportunities.
  • Provides technical expertise to operating units on sustainability, waste management, wastewater and stormwater pollution prevention, air quality management, spill prevention and response, hazardous materials handling, and other environmental topics.
  • Validates that facility and operational designs meet permit conditions for existing operations, modifications, or new projects.
  • Conducts environmental hazard analyses and develops risk based preventive controls, including but not limited to SPCC plans, waste management strategies, and air/water pollution prevention.
  • Manages environmental programs and team members-including a direct report focused on permit and license compliance-to ensure all required permits and licenses are obtained, maintained, current, and compliant. This includes, but is not limited to, customs/bonded programs, liquor licensing, and hazardous waste permitting.
  • Leads and executes special projects that support business objectives related to environmental risk reduction, sustainability, and ESG compliance.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and customers to develop and implement environmentally sustainable solutions that support operational needs.
  • Provides training on environmental risk identification, remediation requirements, continuous control measures, and the management of operational permits and licenses.
  • Manages corporate environmental policies, procedures, and certifications, including timely preparation and submission of required regulatory reports.
  • Prepares internal and external reports, presentations, and proposals for leadership, regulatory agencies, and customers.
  • Develops responses to regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA) for environmental incidents, noncompliance notifications, or corrective action requests.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental health, safety, sustainability, or related field.
  • In exceptional cases, relevant and extensive work experience may substitute for the degree requirement.


Work Experience

  • At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in environmental or similar regulated industry.
  • Production environmental controls management experience preferred.
  • Permitting, government liaison, and legal experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in field implementation of environmental processes.


Technical Skills

  • Environmental certifications, such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM ), Certified Environmental Systems Manager (CESM) or similar certifications desired
  • Thorough understanding of EPA and OSHA regulations and reporting
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access)
  • Strong knowledge of environmental risk management policies, procedures, practices, and control methodologies and tools for autonomous monitoring
