Job description

We are expanding our High Voltage Engineering team to support the development of next-generation AI and high-performance computing data centers across North America. This is an opportunity to join a highly experienced engineering team responsible for the complete technical design of utility interconnection substations and transmission switchyards that deliver hundreds of megawatts of reliable power to mission-critical data center campuses. You will play a key role in designing high-voltage infrastructure from concept through commissioning, working on projects ranging from 34.5 kV distribution substations to 345 kV transmission switchyards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the electrical and physical design of high-voltage substations and switchyards (34.5 kV-345 kV)
  • Develop one-line diagrams, protection philosophies, grounding systems, station layouts, and equipment specifications

If applicable, prepare engineering calculations including:

  • Short-circuit studies
  • Grounding analysis
  • Lightning protection
  • Cable sizing
  • AC/DC station service

If applicable, prepare design documents including:

  • Station General Arrangements
  • Elevations and sectional views
  • Grounding and conduit details
  • Foundation and steel details
  • Control building arrangements and details

Specify and coordinate major equipment including:

  • Power transformers
  • Gas circuit breakers
  • Disconnect switches
  • Instrument transformers
  • Protection and control systems
  • Coordinate with utilities, EPC contractors, civil, structural, transmission line, and protection engineers
  • Review vendor drawings and provide technical guidance throughout procurement and construction
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, and energization activities

About You

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation engineering
  • Strong experience designing substations from 34.5 kV through 345 kV
  • Experience with utility interconnections and transmission systems
  • Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NESC, and applicable utility standards
  • Experience with grounding design, protection coordination, and relay applications
  • PE license preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • Occasional travel to job site is required

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • AI or hyperscale data centers
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Transmission switchyards
  • Substation electrical configurations
  • Gas-insulated or air-insulated substations
  • ETAP, CDEGS, ASPEN, or SKM
  • AutoCAD, and Bluebeam

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
