Your role will encompass creating electrical permit and construction drawings, performing necessary calculations, and preparing close-out documents. You will utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SKM PowerTools, and various manufacturer online design tools. Projects typically include electrical distribution systems requiring single line drawings for submission to utilities, building departments (AHJ) for approval, and field personnel for installation. The projects will span industrial facilities, data centers, hospitals, commercial office buildings, and higher education facilities.
What You'll Do:
  • Perform professional electrical engineering work, including the design of single line, three line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, and electrical equipment layout.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
  • Develop schematic design documents from limited information to support design-build business development efforts.
  • Conduct arc flash, short circuit, and coordination studies.
  • Perform Neher-McGrath calculations to determine temperature rise and current-carrying capacities of power cables.
  • Design projects in accordance with building codes, best practices, and project requirements.
  • Prepare installation details, single-line diagrams, schedules, and calculations for submission to stakeholders and approval authorities.
  • Conduct project site surveys to assess existing field conditions and electrical infrastructure.
  • Create shop drawings and details for installation personnel to use in construction.
  • Develop layouts in AutoCAD based on existing conditions, building codes, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field leaders to provide necessary information for installation.
  • Capture record drawings from the field and update shop drawings based on field markups and in-person visits.

What You'll Need for Success:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field; Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction and design.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Chicago Electrical Code.
  • Preferred certifications: NAPCEP, electrical engineering, and/or AutoCAD.
  • General knowledge of construction and electrical construction practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, Revit Modeling, Bluebeam Software, and SKM PowerTools.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office applications.
  • High attention to quality and detail.
  • Strong client service and team orientation.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, pressured environment.

Licensing / Certification:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Possessing a State or City of Chicago electrician license(s) is advantageous.
