About the role:

Liquid I.V. is seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and solutions-oriented Manager, Commerce Technology to lead the ongoing evolution, scalability, revenue integrity, and production governance of our headless Shopify commerce ecosystem.

Liquid I.V. operates on a fully headless architecture, with a custom storefront powered by Shopify's backend commerce engine. Development and CMS management are supported by our external partner, Pack Digital. This role will serve as the internal technical lead, partnering closely with our outsourced development provider to ensure strong architectural standards, engineering quality, performance optimization, and long-term platform scalability.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role with strategic ownership and cross-functional influence. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on technical expertise with systems thinking and business acumen.

This role reports directly to the Director of Digital Ecommerce Product and works closely with the Digital Product Manager (roadmap owner) and Website Content Analyst (site operations owner) to ensure all initiatives and technical fixes are implemented efficiently, measurably, and sustainably.

In addition to architecture partnership and oversight, this role will directly manage technical issue intake and prioritization across the organization, serving as the primary technical partner to the Customer Experience (CX) team. This individual will develop a structured framework for identifying, categorizing, prioritizing, and resolving site and integration-related issues to reduce revenue impact and improve customer satisfaction.

This role is critical in supporting Liquid I.V.'s continued digital growth while improving operational clarity, performance reliability, and revenue visibility.

Functions and duties of this role include, but not limited to:

  • Lead and contribute to the ongoing evolution of Liquid I.V.'s headless Shopify architecture, including frontend architecture, API orchestration, middleware reliability, and backend commerce services.
  • Serve as the primary internal technical counterpart to Pack Digital, ensuring high engineering standards, thoughtful solution design, and scalable implementation approaches.
  • Partner with Product and development teams to review and guide technical implementation decisions for new features and integrations.
  • Establish clear data standards and API structures for revenue-related functionality, ensuring transactional accuracy, reliable reporting, and scalable experimentation.
  • Ensure site team initiatives are supported by reliable, revenue-aligned backend services and data flows that preserve transactional accuracy.
  • Develop and manage a structured technical issue intake and prioritization framework in partnership with the CX team.
  • Own triage and prioritization of production issues across CX, Operations, Marketing, and Product, balancing roadmap initiatives with urgent fixes based on business impact.
  • Identify recurring issue patterns and drive durable, scalable solutions to reduce repeat incidents.
  • Partner with development teams to oversee sprint-level technical planning, release governance, regression testing processes, and deployment best practices within the outsourced model.
  • Maintain documentation of systems architecture, data flows, APIs, and integration dependencies across the commerce stack.
  • Support governance of integrations across ERP, OMS, subscription platforms, CRM, PIM, payment gateways, fraud tools, and other third-party services.
  • Monitor API reliability, middleware performance, and data integrity across connected systems.
  • Lead site performance optimization efforts across the headless stack, including Core Web Vitals, load speed, caching strategy, and uptime monitoring.
  • Partner with Analytics and Growth to ensure accurate implementation of Amplitude, GA4, GTM, server-side tracking, and data layer governance.
  • Identify and reduce technical debt while supporting long-term scalability and resilience.
  • Support PCI compliance efforts and collaborate with IT on GDPR/CCPA technical implementations and security best practices.
  • Provide technical risk mitigation guidance during major product launches and high-traffic campaigns.
  • Stay current on headless commerce best practices, frontend advancements, and Shopify platform updates.
  • Create and manage a scalable issue intake framework with standardized categorization, severity definitions, SLA benchmarks, and a weighted prioritization model tied to revenue and customer impact.

Qualifications:

  • 6-9+ years of experience in ecommerce engineering, headless commerce environments, or related technical roles.

  • Experience supporting complex system integrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve site performance and resolve production-impacting issues.
  • Working knowledge of analytics implementation and tracking within decoupled systems.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts into business impact.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and results-focused.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required.

  • A 401k plan with company match, short and long-term disability coverage.
  • A generous PTO and sick policy that includes 13+ paid annual holidays.
