Job description

Whole Foods Market is seeking a sharp, driven, and analytically minded Sr Program Manager to join our Promotions Analytics team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of understanding promotional performance and customer engagement, translating campaign data into strategic insights that directly shape our merchandising initiatives.
This is a high-visibility role with real impact from day one. The right candidate should have a strong foundation in retail merchandising and promotional strategy, possess the ability to dive deep into complex campaign performance metrics, understand the business context behind the data, and continuously strive to find deeper insights. They should be ready to step into a role guiding and developing a small analytics team. The 3 other members of the Promotions Analytics team will look to the Sr Program Manager to interpret leadership's intent, inform priorities, and provide coaching & development.
You will design and execute promotional analytics strategies to capture high-quality insights on retail promotions effectiveness and resulting customer behavior. You will conduct or manage deep-dive analyses on promotional performance, customer segmentation, and engagement patterns, surfacing the "so what" behind the data. Working closely with Merchandising and Marketing leaders, you will develop strategy, launch pilots, and deliver clear, actionable findings. Over time, you will help the team build repeatable, scalable analytical frameworks that improve the team's speed and depth. You will communicate results clearly to senior business leaders, translating complex data into concise narratives, and contribute as a key voice for the 3 other members of the Promotions Analytics team.
We are looking for a candidate who brings a strong foundation in retail merchandising and promotional strategy, with the ability to contextualize business performance data within broader market dynamics. They have a proven ability to work through complex performance metrics and extract meaningful, business-relevant insights. They are comfortable operating at both the detail level and the strategic level, knowing when each is needed. They consistently deliver timely, accurate analyses, build partnerships across business teams, and drive change through insight. They can distill complex findings into concise narratives for a range of audiences.
Promotions analytics is a strategic priority at Whole Foods Market. You'll have the opportunity to shape how we understand and optimize our promotional strategies, with the resources, data, and leadership support to make a real difference.
Key job responsibilities
Program Management: Manage priorities and project deliverable timelines for the Promotions Analytics team. Identify opportunities for the team to pursue supporting organizational goals. Own end-to-end delivery of promotional analytics initiatives from strategy through execution.
Collaboration & Relationships: Maintain close working relationships with Merchandising, Marketing, and cross-functional stakeholder leaders to collaborate on the development of promotional strategy and reporting needs. Work cross-functionally with product teams to design reporting capabilities using in-house tools. Partner with data engineering and business intelligence teams to ensure data quality and accessibility.
Communication: Speak, present, and train team members on promotional strategy, campaign optimization, and customer engagement insights. Manage regular updates to leadership on projects related to promotional performance and strategies. Present findings effectively to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Analytics and Reporting: Gather and analyze promotional campaign data, customer behavioral data, and transactional data to provide strategic insights. Utilize analytical methods to identify patterns and trends across data sources. Ability to self-serve data with programming skills (SQL, R, Python). Experience in a highly scalable, distributed environment preferred. Analyze data to provide promotional strategy recommendations, highlight opportunities, and inform adjustments to merchandising initiatives. Provide coaching and development to team members on analytical approaches, stakeholder management, and business acumen.
Strategic Leadership: Serve as a go-to resource for Merchandising and Marketing teams on promotional performance questions. Contribute to quarterly program reviews to inform planning and optimization efforts. Drive process improvements and build scalable frameworks for promotional analytics. Provide guidance on work prioritization and analytical quality standards for the Promotions Analytics team.
Stay current with food, retail, market news, and natural products trends. Read popular and trade press widely.
A day in the life
You start your day reviewing promotional campaign performance data in SQL, identifying trends in customer engagement and product performance across multiple campaigns. You build strategic frameworks to evaluate promotional effectiveness and meet with Merchandising leaders to discuss insights for upcoming seasonal promotions. You lead a cross-functional meeting to present quarterly promotional performance results, guiding the team through customer segment analysis and ROI calculations. After managing priorities for your analytics team and addressing an ad-hoc request from Marketing leadership investigating regional promotional performance differences, you prepare a presentation for senior leadership on promotional strategy recommendations. You close the day by facilitating a team retrospective on the quarterly review process, coaching a team member on their stakeholder presentation approach, and documenting follow-up requests.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- 5+ years of business intelligence and analytics experience
