An internship within the R&D areas such as Research, Product Development and Process Development.
  • Research - Internships consist of working on projects related to the development of technology to enhance existing products or investigate new food concepts.
  • Product Development - Internships generally focus on formulation development to create new or improve existing products.
  • Process Development - Internships generally focus on the development of methods for converting raw materials into finished products, as well as continuous improvement of existing processes.
  • Data & Digital - Internships consist of working on projects related to formulating business problems as data problems and work on solving them through systematic measurements and analysis, developing sensors, and employing machine learning, modelling, and data science methods wherever appropriate.
We are looking for qualified individuals with a desire to work in the food industry and are interested in growing their problem-solving, innovation, and analytical skills in a real-life research and development environment. Leadership, innovative thoughts, and a strong desire to learn are critical to succeed.
Qualifications
  • Pursuing a BS in combined degrees e.g. Computer Science + Philosophy, Computer Science + Music, Computer Science + Crop Sciences. Pursuing a BS in Philosophy, Consumer Science, Computer Science, Material Science, Music/Music Science, Food Science, Psychology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Statistics, Economics, Design & Fine Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Marketing, Advertising at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

During the placement you will be expected to plan and execute projects at various scales and depending on the scope may encompass hands-on practical work (e.g., benchtop and pilot plant, potentially within FutureLab, potentially within UIUC facilities, or potentially at Mondelez facilities at other locations.).
Requirements
  • Must be a full-time enrolled student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at the time of employment.
  • Graduation date of May 2027 or later.
  • This role starts Fall 2026 (10-15 hours per week) with the opportunity to extend into Spring 2027 based on performance.

Mondelฤ“z International (MDLZ) FutureLab will be the home of far-horizon innovation for MDLZ, and of MDLZ's virtual environment, Simoja.
Internships run during term time (part-time) and the summer vacations (full-time). Multiple positions are available, and hours are flexible (10 hours/week to 37.5 hours/week). Interns will be paid a competitive hourly wage. The positions are based out of Champaign, Illinois.
