The Commodity Project Manager is responsible for managing large-scale material orders with a primary focus on wire and conduit projects. This role ensures seamless coordination between sales, vendors, and operations to support project profitability, operational expectations, and on-time fulfillment. The position plays a critical role in navigating lead times and logistics challenges, directly impacting customer trust and successful project execution.

Order Execution
  • Oversee order placement, tracking, and fulfillment of large wire, conduit, and commodity orders.
  • Coordinate shipment timing, jobsite deliveries, staging, release schedules, and warehouse requirements.
  • Write tickets for complex wire cuts, parallels, and SIMPull reel use.
  • Resolve backorders, damages, freight issues, and fulfillment discrepancies.
  • Manage large wire and cable orders from order through final delivery.
  • Advise on order planning, release timing, documentation accuracy, and margin protection during project execution. Coordinate with key wire manufacturers and suppliers on availability, lead times, allocations, and delivery schedules.
  • Escalate supply risks early and support contingency sourcing strategies when needed.
Logistics
  • Provide warehouse operations with increased visibility to major incoming material that requires planning to receive, handle, and put away.
  • Provide warehouse operations with increased visibility to major outgoing material that requires planning to properly cut/parallel wire and allot correct drivers/trucks/MHE equipment.
  • Track reel handling, storage considerations, partial releases, and delivery documentation.
  • Track project margins closely against quoted pricing, purchase costs, freight, handling, and execution-related expenses.
  • Monitor buy-vs-sell spreads and identify project cost exposure before it becomes a customer or profitability issue.
  • Support change orders related to scope changes, substitutions, freight impacts, or release timing.
  • Manage billing timing, material releases, and job profitability in partnership with sales and operations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for wire and commodity-related project execution.
  • Provide customers and sales teams with guidance on lead times, substitutions, logistics, and risk areas.
  • Maintain proactive communication on order status, delivery timing, and potential project impacts.
  • Partner with outside and inside sales to align commercial commitments with operational execution. Recommend strategies to reduce project execution risk, including alternates, staged-release planning, contingency sourcing, or improved coordination.
  • Stay informed on vendor capacity, lead times, product availability, and logistics conditions that may affect project fulfillment.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of orders, releases, pricing agreements, vendor commitments, and customer communications.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, supply risk, delivery progress, and margin performance.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in project management, purchasing, sales support, supply chain, or operations.
  • Experience in electrical distribution, construction materials, electrical contracting, or related industrial supply environment strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience with wire, cable, conduit, or commodity-based products highly preferred.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills across customers, sales, operations, purchasing, and vendors.
  • Strong understanding of wire and cable order execution, vendor coordination, project documentation, and release scheduling.
  • Financial acumen with the ability to track project costs, protect quoted margins, and manage execution-related cost exposure.
  • High attention to detail, especially with large-dollar, high-risk orders and special requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple large projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams, ERP systems, and project/order tracking tools
