This role leads the development and support of all CNC programming required for machining, milling, and laser cutting operations in a highly technical aerospace manufacturing environment. You will create, standardize, and optimize multi-axis NC programs for aluminum and hard metals, while collaborating closely with engineering and manufacturing to improve machine performance, reduce tooling costs, and resolve complex machining issues. The position requires deep experience with CATIA and advanced CNC controls, along with a strong understanding of project management and lean manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of CNC programs to support machining, milling, and laser cutting operations for aluminum and hard metals.
  • Provide ongoing liaison and technical support for all CNC programming activities across multiple facilities.
  • Develop and oversee the application of preferred programming methods and practices to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Incorporate standard approaches per material type and machining platform, utilizing a standard cutter list with proven cutting parameters to ensure optimal machine performance and average material removal rates.
  • Provide machine shop support and troubleshooting for all CNC programming issues.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to select and introduce cutting tools that align with performance and cost objectives.
  • Create and maintain CAM drawings, datasets, and setup sheets to support efficient and repeatable production.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to part machining, including participation in and support of comprehensive Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing to support product development, CAM improvements, machine time reduction activities, and tooling cost reduction.
  • Assist with 3D modeling of products as needed to support programming and manufacturing requirements.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to support planning, scheduling, and control of CNC-related activities.
  • Apply and interpret GD&T and FD&T requirements to ensure parts meet design and quality specifications.
  • Use MS Office tools to document processes, prepare reports, and communicate technical information.
  • Provide guidance and informal leadership within the programming team, leveraging prior lead or supervisory experience where applicable.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by applying project management and lean manufacturing principles to CNC programming and machining processes.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-axis NC programming of aluminum and hard metals.
  • Minimum of 5 years of advanced CATIA/CAD system operating experience, with proficiency in CATIA V5 preferred.
  • Experience in CNC programming for machining, milling, and laser cutting operations.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Mazak, HAAS, and/or Siemens CNC controls.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply GD&T and FD&T requirements to work products.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts and their application in a machining environment.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience in a CNC programming or machine shop environment (preferred).
  • Experience with post processors or post building (experience a plus, training available).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced CAD/CAM tools and verification software for multi-axis CNC programming.
  • Experience supporting aerospace structures, airframe, or aircraft mechanical components.
  • Background in production environments involving structural components and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with A&P, airframe, structure, and aircraft mechanical work is beneficial.
  • Experience working with standard cutter lists and optimized cutting parameters to improve machine performance.
  • Exposure to root cause and corrective action (RCCA) methodologies in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, and production planning.
  • Comfort working in a vertically integrated environment that includes engineering, fabrication, kitting, and assembly.
  • Willingness to learn and further develop post building skills under guidance and training.
