Commercial Building Engineer (Roving) – Sandy, UT
Pay: $32–$35/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (hours may vary based on property needs). Overtime available as needed.
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Building Engineer to support a portfolio of office and retail properties in the Sandy, UT area. This is a roving position supporting five locations within approximately a 20-mile radius north and south of Sandy. Candidates must be flexible with travel between sites and scheduling based on property needs while maintaining a full-time, 40-hour workweek.
What We're Looking For
- Commercial building maintenance experience is required.
- Strong HVAC, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), and building systems knowledge.
- Ability to troubleshoot building issues and coordinate with outside vendors. While major repairs are outsourced, you'll need the technical expertise to identify issues and determine the appropriate vendor to engage.
- This is not an entry-level role. We're looking for someone who can work independently and make informed maintenance decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on commercial buildings, building systems, and equipment.
- Monitor and inspect HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarm, and other building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, lighting, roofs, drains, and other facility components.
- Complete work orders, maintenance logs, and repair documentation accurately.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.
- Support energy management initiatives to maximize system efficiency and minimize operating costs.
- Maintain building lighting systems, including ballast and fixture replacements.
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors when necessary.
- Assist the Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering in maintaining a safe, well-maintained property.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial building maintenance experience.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and troubleshooting building equipment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Relevant trade licenses or certifications are a plus (EPA Universal Certification, Refrigeration Certification, Journeyman/Master Electrician, Boiler License, etc.).
