Job description

Location: Maple School
Season: October-December
Reports to: Maple Athletic Director and Assistant Principal
Stipend Amount: $4,218 for 7th/8th Grade; or $2,929 for 6th Grade, as applicable
Employment Type: Supplemental/Extra-Duty



Coaching Summary

The Basketball Coach is responsible for leading a middle school basketball program for girls or boys that develops individual skills, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. The coach creates a positive and supportive environment where student-athletes grow both athletically and personally while representing Maple School with integrity.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience in basketball preferred
  • Knowledge of middle school athletics and student development preferred
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required prior to the season

Coaching Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead practices four days per week (Monday-Thursday) from approximately 3:35-5:00 p.m.
  • Coach all scheduled games and tournaments.
  • Ride the athletic bus to away contests.
  • Teach basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, administrators, and the Athletic Director.
  • Supervise students before, during, and after practices and competitions.
  • Maintain uniforms, equipment, and inventory.
  • Model professionalism and positive sportsmanship.
  • Follow all District, conference, and IESA rules and expectations.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and player development.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate middle school student-athletes.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to demonstrate basketball skills during practices.
  • Ability to stand, run, and actively supervise practices and games.
  • Ability to lift and transport athletic equipment.

Terms of Employment

This is an extra-duty stipend position, compensated in accordance with Appendix B of the District 30 Education Association's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
