Job description

Manager – Badlands Portland

LGBTQ+ Nightclub

Badlands Portland is seeking an experienced, dependable Manager to lead our late-night crew including bartenders, barbacks, door persons, and security. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced nightclub environment and is critical to maintaining a safe, professional, and well-run venue.

This position requires someone who understands that in Oregon, management is personally responsible for enforcing OLCC laws regarding overserving, intoxicated guests, and responsible alcohol service. The Manager is the primary authority on the floor during peak hours and must be confident stepping in immediately when alcohol service needs to stop, guests need to be removed, or staff need direction.

Late nights and weekends required

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary manager on duty, ensuring smooth, safe, and compliant nightly operations
  • Lead bartenders, barbacks, door persons, and security with professionalism, consistency, and clear direction
  • Maintain a neutral and professional management presence, setting clear boundaries while overseeing staff
  • Actively monitor alcohol service and immediately stop service to visibly intoxicated guests in accordance with OLCC law
  • Ensure staff do not serve multiple intoxicated guests, overlook impairment, or continue service when it should be refused
  • Provide leadership to the security team, ensuring calm judgment, de-escalation, and adherence to no-contact protocols
  • Step in early to de-escalate situations involving guests or staff before they become larger issues
  • Ensure full compliance with OLCC regulations and responsible alcohol service standards at all times
  • Monitor bar operations for proper service, accountability, and professionalism
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and health compliance throughout the venue
  • Assist with cash handling, banks, and nightly closeouts as needed
  • Support scheduling needs and assist with staff coverage and adjustments
  • Review video surveillance footage as needed for investigations, incidents, or policy violations
  • Ensure incidents are properly documented and escalated to senior management when required
  • Provide clear nightly recap reports to ownership and senior leadership
  • Work collaboratively with corporate leadership and the late-night crew, with opportunity to assist in scheduling, payroll, and administrative responsibilities over time

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an operations manager, floor manager, assistant manager, lead, or supervisor in nightlife or hospitality required
  • Strong understanding of OLCC laws, particularly regarding overserving, intoxication recognition, and refusal of service
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams without favoritism, resolve conflict, and de-escalate high-pressure situations
  • Strong communication skills and professional judgment
  • Solid understanding of late-night bar and nightclub operations
  • Reliable, accountable, and consistent attendance
