Introduction
At FLS, the Product Development Engineer - Pumps plays a key role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of pump products and related systems. Working closely with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service teams, this role helps deliver reliable, cost-effective, and competitive pump solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
Your Responsibilities
  • Sensors & Condition Monitoring: Lead the integration of sensors and connected condition-monitoring technologies into slurry pump and rotodynamic equipment designs, capturing machine-health data to enable early detection of wear and mechanical degradation and to advance the next generation of connected pump products.

  • Product Design & Development: Design and develop slurry pump components, assemblies, and related equipment using CATIA, supporting new product development projects from concept through production release.

  • Modeling & Documentation: Create, review, and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and product documentation in compliance with company, industry, and quality standards.

  • Design Optimization: Develop design solutions that improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness for severe-duty mining applications.

  • Engineering Analysis: Perform engineering calculations, design analyses, and tolerance evaluations, and verify the dimensional accuracy and manufacturability of designs.

  • Design Reviews & Change Management: Lead and participate in design reviews, provide technical recommendations for product improvements, and support engineering change activities including revisions, deviations, and obsolescence management.

  • Prototype & Validation: Drive prototype builds, testing, and validation efforts, including occasional travel to active mine sites to support on-site validation and resolve field performance issues.

  • Cross-Functional Support: Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, Applications Engineering, Sales, and Product Management, and collaborate with suppliers to evaluate materials, manufacturing methods, and component improvements.

  • Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing designs for standardization, optimization, and cost reduction, and support reliability and performance improvement through analysis of field and test data across the product lifecycle.

What You Bring
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience; or a Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related design degree with 7+ years of relevant product design experience.

  • Industrial Equipment Design: Experience designing industrial equipment, preferably centrifugal pumps or related rotating equipment.

  • Rapid Prototyping: Hands-on experience with in-house rapid prototyping (3D printing) to accelerate the design validation cycle and align stakeholder vision before scaling to external vendors.

  • CATIA Proficiency: Proficiency with CATIA for 3D modeling, assembly design, and engineering drawing development.

  • Mechanical Design Fundamentals: Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerancing practices.

  • Drawings & Documentation: Experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.

  • Engineering Support: Experience providing engineering support to internal stakeholders.

  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Core Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Priority Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
