Job Description Summary:
Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Analytical Scientist for advancing analytical capabilities in botanical extract, functional bioactive compounds, protein/peptide, nutrients, dairy, and juice to support functional and nutrition innovation. The position combines technical expertise in advanced analytical methodologies with project ownership and cross-functional collaboration, contributing to R&D from ingredient understanding through product development and commercialization.
This role is responsible for independently or under minimum guidance to conduct and lead routine and non-routine analysis, conduct and manage routine equipment and instrument maintenance and calibration, document findings and write reports, while working both independently and in a collaborative team environment to support R&D projects to enable business decisions and growth.
Key Responsibilities
This role contributes to the development, application, and continuous improvement of analytical approaches supporting protein, peptide, dairy, juice, and related ingredient systems. Responsibilities include supporting project-based analytical activities, advancing analytical methodologies, generating and interpreting complex data sets, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to ensure analytical outputs align with broader business and innovation objectives. The role also contributes to capability development, maintains awareness of emerging analytical technologies, and ensures high-quality scientific outputs across routine and non-routine workstreams.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or related field (MS with significant experience considered)
  • 5-10+ years (PhD) industry analytical science experience preferred or 10+ years (MS) industry experience in analytical science
  • Strong expertise in HPLC-MS/MS, both targeted and non-targeted workflows
  • Experience in proteomics and/or peptide analysis highly preferred
  • Experience in botanical extract analysis highly preferred
  • Experience with multivariable data analysis preferred
  • Experience working with food, beverage, dairy highly preferred; biotech or pharmaceutical systems preferred
  • Proven experience in method development and validation
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

Functional Skills & Expertise
  • Recognized subject matter expert across the Company in one or more fields, evaluating data/information and making decisions, providing solutions to problems.
  • Advanced Field Specialty: Expert ability to integrate advanced techniques and to apply the most appropriate techniques to a broad range of problems.
  • Ability to perform advanced, complex testing at a high level of throughput using the methodology as required on function and nutrition ingredients and finished products. Including but not limited to: advanced sample preparation, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, HRMS, SDS-PAGE, Western-blot, ELISA, GPC-UV/MALS/RI/DV, advanced rheology, UV, fluorescence spectroscopy, IR, DSC, XRF.
  • Demonstrated track record in troubleshooting sophisticated R&D problems with limited time and resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of: Good Laboratory Practices; Laboratory/Analytical Instrumentation; LIMS; Quality management systems; Data analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex science to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to communicate technical information both verbally and in written reports that is understandable by technical and non-technical audiences; to produce reports of results and recommendations that are clear and concise.
  • Ability to apply communication skills and Company policy to respond to ingredient/product scientific or regulatory issues. Includes the ability to handle sensitive and complex contacts that require a high level of judgment, tact and diplomacy to minimize negative impact on the System and Business.
  • Proprietary Information: Ability to recognize and protect proprietary information as it relates to both internal and external IP.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of project management principles and the ability to apply the principles, tools and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects or work plans to ensure successful completion (e.g., on time, within budget). Prioritization skills.
  • Ability to develop & successfully follow short-term and long-term Business Plans aligned with Company strategy.
