Job description

Overview
The Baggage Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily ground handling and baggage operations while ensuring safe, efficient, and professional service delivery in a fast-paced airport environment. This role supervises frontline operational employees, coordinates ramp and baggage activities, and supports premium services for VIP and high-profile travelers at Miami International Airport.
The Operation Supervisor is expected to lead by example, maintain operational compliance, promote a safety-first culture, and ensure all service standards are consistently achieved.

  • This position is part-time with availability for more hours
  • Previous airport or airline operational leadership experience preferred

Key responsibility
  • Supervise daily baggage handling, ramp, and passenger service operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with operational standards
  • Lead and support frontline employees, including assigning duties, monitoring productivity, and providing operational guidance throughout the shift
  • Coordinate baggage movement between aircraft, terminals, and designated ramp locations while ensuring on-time performance
  • Ensure VIP and high-profile travelers receive professional and discreet service support
  • Monitor operational staffing levels and assist with shift coverage as needed
  • Conduct safety briefings and ensure compliance with airport, airline, TSA, and company safety procedures
  • Oversee proper operation and use of baggage carts, tugs, and company vehicles
  • Perform routine inspections of operational areas, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safety and operational readiness
  • Assist with incident reporting, operational investigations, and corrective action processes when necessary
  • Support employee coaching, training, and performance management initiatives
  • Ensure employees maintain a professional appearance and follow company grooming standards
  • Monitor baggage handling accuracy and service timelines to meet operational and customer expectations
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities, including attendance tracking, operational reports, and shift documentation
  • Respond quickly and professionally to operational challenges in a fast-paced airport environment
  • Perform additional operational duties and special assignments as directed by leadership

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge

Experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of airport operations, baggage handling, ramp, or airline service experience preferred
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working in fast-paced aviation or ground handling operations strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with airport safety procedures and operational compliance requirements preferred

Skill and ability
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English required
  • Must be able to pass the driving report
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work professionally with high-profile individuals and maintain confidentiality when necessary
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as operationally required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and attention to detail
  • Professional appearance and adherence to company grooming and uniform standards
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening prior to employment

Physical Demands
Job duties include but are not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, twisting, reaching overhead and below shoulder level, standing for extended periods, walking long distances, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
This position regularly requires lifting and moving baggage and equipment weighing up to approximately 70 pounds. Employees may work near moving aircraft, heavy equipment, jet noise, and other mechanical operations in active airport ramp environments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily outdoors in an airport ramp environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, aircraft noise, fumes, and moving ground service equipment. Employees must follow strict airport safety and security procedures at all times. The role requires frequent coordination with operations teams, supervisors, dispatch, and airport personnel to ensure efficient and safe baggage handling operations.
