If you thrive under deadline and are driven to inform and engage, we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Develop and organize daily newscasts or local programming with strong editorial vision
  • Write and showcase compelling stories that resonate with local audiences
  • Collaborate with reporters, anchors, assignment editors, and news managers to shape coverage
  • Enhance content with graphics, video, research, and consistent station branding
  • Make time-sensitive editorial decisions in a fast-moving newsroom environment
  • Oversee live broadcasts, adjusting content and timing in real time as needed
  • Perform desktop editing to refine and prepare segments for air
  • Publish content to station websites and digital platforms
  • Track story progress and ensure deadlines are met throughout the day
  • Support newsroom operations with additional duties as assigned
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a newsroom or related environment preferred
  • Understanding of journalistic standards, ethics, and legal considerations required
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Strong passion for local news and awareness of community events, trends, and issues
  • Exceptional writing skills with attention to detail in grammar, spelling, and storytelling
  • Creative and courageous storytelling approach with sharp editorial judgment
  • Ability to generate ideas and advance stories with clarity and impact
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams
  • High level of organization and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Adaptability and composure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Self-motivation and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Proficiency with newsroom systems, MS Office, and web analytics tools
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
OUR TEAM: At KSBY, you'll join a collaborative and driven newsroom committed to serving the Central Coast with integrity and purpose. Our team brings together journalists, storytellers, and innovators who are passionate about local news and dedicated to building trust in the communities we serve. We value diverse perspectives, encourage creativity, and support one another in delivering meaningful journalism every day.
WHERE YOU'LL LIVE, WORK, AND PLAY: San Luis Obispo offers a unique blend of coastal beauty, outdoor adventure, and vibrant community life. Nestled between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the area boasts stunning beaches, vineyards, hiking trails, and a thriving downtown filled with local shops and restaurants. Whether you're exploring the coastline, enjoying a weekend farmers market, or taking in the laid-back Central Coast lifestyle, you'll find endless opportunities to recharge outside the newsroom.
Working at KSBY means being part of a community where your work has real impact-telling stories that matter in a place people love to call home.
