Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a trusted engineering and technical services organization providing mission-critical expertise across the U.S. Department of Energyโ€™s nuclear security and environmental remediation enterprise. This position is FULLY ONSITE in Amarillo, TX, and requires an active DoD Top Secret or DOE Q security clearance*

The IT Networking Engineer will support secure, highly available enterprise network infrastructure, maintaining and troubleshooting routing, switching, network access, wireless, VoIP, and core network services. This role will focus on network availability, incident resolution, lifecycle management, monitoring, performance optimization, and change management within a highly secure DOE environment.

Responsibilities of the Network Engineer:
  • Maintain 99.9% availability of core network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and data center fabrics, while resolving network incidents and service outages within established SLAs.
  • Develop and execute network lifecycle, upgrade, patching, and rollback plans to support infrastructure stability and availability.
  • Monitor network devices, support NOC/SOC onboarding and telemetry reporting, and provide recommendations for performance optimization, capacity planning, and remediation.
  • Support Cisco ISE authentication, authorization, access control services, Network Access Devices, and identity groups.
  • Administer wireless LAN infrastructure, access point deployments, and VoIP services, including moves, adds, changes, and deletions.
  • Manage load balancers, DNS, DHCP, and IPAM environments supporting enterprise network operations.
  • Maintain technical documentation, diagrams, inventories, and change records while managing RFCs through ServiceNow and established CAB processes.
Qualifications for the Network Engineer:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree with 5+ years of experience, Masterโ€™s with 2+ years, or 10+ years of combined relevant education/training/experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of relevant networking experience, including Cisco enterprise routing and switching.
  • Experience supporting secure, highly available enterprise network environments.
  • Strong network troubleshooting, operations, and infrastructure management experience.
  • Ability and willingness to work fully onsite in Amarillo, TX*
  • Active DoD Top Secret w/ eligibility for DOE Q, or currently active DOE Q security clearance*
  • Desired:
    • Cisco ISE, Catalyst/DNA Center, Tenable, Splunk, LTM/GTM load balancers, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM administration.
Compensation for the Network Engineer:
  • Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000 *depending on experience*
