Job description

About the Alliance

The Alliance Foundation is a startup non-profit that enables individuals to coordinate to improve the world. It does so by building online infrastructure and planning actions for the Alliance, a community of individuals who each dedicate a small, consistent amount of time to complete Alliance tasks.

The Alliance is composed of a general body of members and a full-time office.

  1. The office plans actions that advance Alliance priorities.
  2. Members complete these actions on our online platform.

In no particular order, Alliance priorities are extreme poverty, environmental destruction, the decline of democratic institutions, and dangerous technological development.

Our advisors include former UN leaders, the former French Minister of the Environment, and non-profit founders and CEOs. A list of Alliance staff, advisors, and a public member directory is available at https://worldalliance.org/people.

Membership

We're selectively growing our membership ahead of a public launch. As a member, you'll join the Alliance community in completing one small task per week (just 15 minutes) assigned through our online platform. These tasks are part of action plans developed by our full-time office.

Our actions explore strategies for coordinated individuals to have an impact. Some past actions we've taken are:

  • Discussing environmental policy with EPA employees
  • Contributing perspectives to federal AI policy docket comments
  • Reporting potholes to local governments
  • Coordinating with businesses to reduce waste

A full list of public actions is available at https://worldalliance.org/progress.

Strategy

Our strategy depends on each member to participate reliably. With high and predictable levels of participation, we can make precise and effective action plans. For example:

  • We can plan experiments with statistical significance.
  • We can make agreements with external parties, such as businesses, who know exactly what we can offer them.
  • We can coordinate lifestyle changes only when there are enough members to have a sufficiently large impact.
