Job description


A Laboratory Microbiologist at UL Solutionsserves as Lead for simple projects as assigned, and is responsible for evaluating, explaining, and completing the test report for samples. They will follow defined test plans and data sheets, operate and maintains complex test instruments, sample preparations/solutions for sample testing. They will communicate with internal customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation of test samples.
This is a Weekend Rotational Shift. You will be working every third weekend.
Responsibilities
  • Follows defined test plans and datasheets with necessary supervision/support.
  • Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
  • Records and explains test results and completes test reports.
  • Serves as Lead for simple test programs as assigned with the necessary assistance.
  • Communicates project status and results as needed.
  • Holds responsibility for defining test plan, report completion and accuracy, meeting of agreed deadlines, and managing project related activities.
  • Examines customer samples and learns to operate appropriate tests for each case with support.
  • Communicates with internal customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
  • Directs, builds and/or adapts simple test setups, sample preparations/solutions and instruments to new situations, based on test plans and instructions.
  • Trains other lab staff on these test procedures or instruments.
  • Operates and maintains test instruments appropriately to measure and test samples.
  • Performs maintenance on designated test instruments and laboratory area.
  • For a single testing technology, integrates basic process and instruments improvements into all aspects of the job.
  • Communicates with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new instruments, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.
  • Understands and follows safe chemical and microbiological hygiene practices.
  • Reads and follows the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and follows all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree or diploma from an accredited university
    • A major in Microbiology, General Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry a plus.
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Required: Desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Required: Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers
  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative
  • Highly preferred: Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $48,900.00-65,100.00 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
