Job description

Major Drilling America, Inc. is seeking experienced Underground Percussive Drillers to safely and efficiently operate percussive drilling equipment in underground mining environments. This position requires hands‑on drilling experience, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work productively in physically demanding and remote conditions.

Key ResponsibilitiesDrilling Operations
  • Operate underground percussive drilling equipment, including top hammer and ITH drills, in varying ground conditions
  • Accurately collar and drill blast holes according to drill plans, layouts, and supervisor instructions
  • Perform ground support drilling and maintain awareness of scaling and ground conditions
  • Safely handle drill steels, bits, and related tooling
Equipment & Maintenance
  • Conduct pre‑shift inspections and routine maintenance on drilling equipment
  • Identify mechanical issues and assist with troubleshooting or repair coordination
  • Maintain equipment in safe, operational condition at all times
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all MSHA regulations, site‑specific safety rules, and company policies
  • Identify hazards and maintain situational awareness in underground environments
  • Practice safe ventilation awareness and confined‑space work procedures
  • Promote and contribute to a strong safety culture
Communication & Documentation
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, engineers, and crew members
  • Complete required daily reports, safety documentation, and equipment checklists
Required QualificationsExperience & Skills
  • 1–3 years minimum underground percussive drilling experience
  • Experience operating jackleg and/or mechanized percussive drills
  • Knowledge of underground mining methods and drilling techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret drill plans and layouts
  • Familiarity with ground support practices preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and hazard recognition
Certifications & Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required (CDL a plus)
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screening and physical examination
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, low light, and underground conditions
  • Capable of lifting 50+ lbs and handling heavy drilling equipment
  • Comfortable working in wet, dusty, uneven, and noisy environments
  • Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work extended shifts
